Hijacking-or pondering is okay with me.

I like that you said this, stopdog. Why? Because I really feel that none of us or at least most of us, EVER embody the virtue that we put forth. The "wise" ones learn to present the behavior/affect that is acceptable and "okay". Others who struggle, are overwhelmed, confused, disconnected etc, fail the "normal" test. That's why I don't think that therapists are alone in this behavior. I think that western civilization is rampant with this kind of thinking . .. heck. many Asian, European, African . . . world thinking mimics this kind of thinking. We want people to present or act in a certain way and if they don't, then they are abnormal and in need of "adjustment". In western society, that means medication and/or hospitalization/imprisonment. In other countries it can mean even worse--isolation, medication, torture, and prison. Not a good thing in any country/nation! As much as I hate mental health services in the U.S., I have to admit that after looking at what is/is not available in other countries, we have to consider ourselves pretty lucky . . .not that things don't have to change BIG time!

As much as I do not see them as models of anything - they seem to think of themselves as such. They are always telling me what they would do or have done (why would I care?) and the first one even tried telling me that I could use her as "the good mother" whatever the hell that would be (and she is the least maternal woman I think I have ever met. I look maternal next to her).

For me I would say that she is not a role model in the sense that I look up to her and aspire to be her but she does model behaviors/ways of thinking that I want to learn. The biggest thing is being nonjudgmental which is hard for me to learn but I'm working on it!

With the ones I know in real life they sure must be acting something in therapy because I can't imagine them being at work the way they are in real world. One I babysat for had a cat poop and piss everywhere in the house and she wasn't concerned about it at all (stink). I would come to babysit and would clean because I was just too mortified. She also had birds pooping everywhere in the bedroom on the carpet and overall that family had the worst filth. She was a therapist and he a physician. They also hoarded stuff, including rotten expired food. I threw away rotten stuff few times (afraid their kid would eat it) and she had heart attack. I imagine they both project themselves as put together in their professional lives. They were nice folks though. Just messed up Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I don't particularly see the current one I have as a roll model but when I was younger I did have one that was sort of a roll model. or at least she was a huge part of teaching me how to be in this world

Do you want a hero? I can't see any therapist as capable of that.

I voted I look at her as a role model for some things but not in general. I like how she models good health and living and positivity but like others said I really don't know her enough in real life for her to be a role model or not plus there are some things about her that I don't want for myself.

I'd like a T to model being a sane person.
