I felt really comfortable talking to her and opening up with her...and she also seemed to really like me, but without being overeager. I just got a really good gut feeling about her and booked a session for Tuesday. She seemed really empathetic and takes a relational rather than straight CBT/DBT approach and she is very experienced with suicidal ideation as well as attachment issues - she actually specializes in that. And she thinks her role as a therapist is to help me explore what things mean, be responsive, be empathetic, be a safe person in my life, etc. And I think the biggest thing is that she is open to being transparent with me and answering my inquiries about what's coming of for her, her thoughts, feelings, etc.

She's also been a T for 18 years and teaches at a very well respected school that trains Ts, and also lectures at my university's school of public health, and she offers supervision to other Ts. So she's definitely qualified and I felt good about her and her level of warmth...she reminded me a bit of current T. She also loves Brene Brown just as much as I do, so perhaps I am a little biased about that. But I felt so good about just talking to her that I didn't even feel the need to ask my questions about emergency contact info, supervision, etc. It just felt good. So I have a session booked for next week and I'm feeling really good about it. T #5 just might be the T for me!

I don't know if I should still do current T's questionable consult or not...maybe I will have my first session with this T and decide then...

I am so happy for you, Yearning! I would see this T first. If she doesn't work out, you can always see T's referral. But this one sounds great for you.

Sounds good. You sound like you have really asked her some great questions, I'm wishing I had asked my new T some things along those lines.

What a great find! It sounds like the two of you really connected. Good luck and I'm so glad that your "instincts" worked for you. That isn't a small thing. Celebrate!

Sounds promising. I got the same "really good gut feeling" the very first time I talked to my t on our initial phone consult 3.5 years ago now. I'm so glad I followed my instincts with her. Sounds like you really connected with this one, I wish you all the best with it!!
