It was suggested by my therapist that I look into Radically Open DBT (RO DBT). It's kinda an off-shoot of dialectical behavioral therapy but for those who are dealing with emotional over control. I have done DBT three times before, and found some of it helpful…but only to an extent. Does anyone have any experience with this newer type of DBT?
All I can find is About Radically Open DBT (RO DBT) which doesn't give too much info on exactly what the treatment is. |

Hmm, that is the first I have heard of it, but it sounds interesting... I couldn't finish the video because his squeaky marker was just... ugh! no. nails on a chalkboard bad, lol.
I agree that there isn't much about the process of this treatment. I clicked on the link for providers wanting to learn it, but it was just as "non-informational" as the rest of the site. It talks a lot about the theory behind it, how it's supposed to help, but not what it actually is, or how that's accomplished. It also seems to be only happening in Ireland at the moment? At least, that is what the RO-DBT site (a University's description of the research project) showed. It was also lacking in depth about what exactly the treatment entails. I'm not sure how close to DBT is actually is, since they said you don't need any training in DBT at all to grasp or provide this treatment... I'm a bit skeptical, but I hate DBT, so that colors anything even remotely related to DBT. It might be worth checking out further if you can find someone who does it. |

I'm sure it's not good for the profession or the patients for therapy to splinter into so many factions.
Didn't someone prove that it was the quality of the relationship that matters most of all? |

I always think it's helpful to have options for treatment. The same thing does not work for everyone. While many benefit from the therapeutic relationship, it doesn;t always deal with everything a client may be struggling to address... I wouldn't say RO DBT is a faction so much as it is an option.
That said however, they don't make much effort to explain said option, which has me wondering what it actually is. |
