I just felt that I really needed to post this. I have PTSD & am a survivor of SA & have recently started EMDR. I have read a lot on EMDR & went into it thinking it was not going to work! However, it does & has. I don't understand why, but 'feel' the differences. The 'images' have changed & I feel so much more positive.
For any of you out there who are, 'sceptical', please just give it a go. Keep an open mind, go with it & don't ask how it works, as you won't get an answer! I don't care how it works now, I just care & know it does! Don't be frightened or apprehensive, just go with it. It really does work. I know this is changing my life. Xxx ![]() |

I've considered EMDR, but this is one thing I've wondered, is the therapeutic relationship considered as important as in CBT?

There really isn't much of a relationship. It's very 'clinical' you don't have to share anything. You can just visualise. It's the 'feeling' that you have to notice.

EMDR brought about much need relief from my suffering.

Looking for safety, protection, being cherished and loved can often be normal unmet needs in childhood, and the survivor searches for these in other adults. This can be where survivors search for mother and father figures. Transference issues in counseling can occur and this is normal for childhood abuse survivors. |

Thanks so much for sharing. I am keen for my H to try it for PTSD due to witnessing his brother's death. He is sceptical because 'nothing can change what happened' I will show him your post, thanks

From what I've read it it important that you trust the T. My also does EMDR and I've had a few sessions. I don't think I could do it with a T I haven't spoken much to.

Your H is right, as I too can't change what happened to me either. My brain is being helped to 'process' what happened to me & put it in a place where it is manageable for me. I don't get to choose where & how it's processed, my brain decides for itself. Urge your H to give it a go. Nothing ventured, & all that jazz! I was incredibly sceptical, but it has already had a incredibly positive effect on me. My flashbacks have gone, I can sleep, I am not constantly on edge, I'm not waking up in the mornings feeling really angry & I am able to do some things that I was not able to do b4 due to the PTSD. I've only had 4 sessions so far! Xxx
