I think the films one finds funny is no real indication of anything other than a sense of the type of sense of humor one has. I don't usually find Bill Murray funny in anything. I did not find the plot of this movie or the dialogue or the action funny. It is not my kind of movie in its type of humor - it would not be funny if it were any profession to me. It has nothing to do with the therapy aspect of it to me.
I loved the tv shows Head Case and Web Therapy. I found the therapy scenes in Ally McBeal to be funny. I found the cartoon Dr. Katz to be funny and I really liked the comic strip about a therapist called Go Fish.

I know it's neither here no there but I dislike movies about high schools and teachers ( with the exception of some based on books or documentaries or some indie ones ). I find most mainstream ones cheesy corny and unrealistic.

For the same reason I dislike most (not all) movies about people/children with special needs (that's what I do for a living) . Feels patronizing and far removed from reality

I wonder if therapists dislike movies about therapists?

I don't dislike shows or movies about lawyers but I don't watch the serious ones. I don't watch dramas about mds or cops either - those just make me hate those professions more than I already do. Actually, I don't watch many dramas at all.
I did like Ally McBeal.
I sometimes watch South Park (which is not about lawyers - just something I sometimes enjoy). I enjoyed the dialogue in Gilmore Girls but found the plot lines tedious.

I did like Ally McBeal.

I typically like movies/shows about lawyers I also like criminal dramas about detectives and cops. I especially like British ones. And there is French one Spiral on Netflix, very well done show albeit brutal. I don't care for the medical shows at all.

. I haven't watched Ally McBeal. Heard good things

South Park is hilarious, that kind of stuff about kids I do like to watch on occasion. Also Simpsons. Gilmore girls as a show was not bad but I disliked both mother and daughter. Both actresses are annoying and the mother is too hyper ( I am hyper myself so it annoys be in others).

Sorry didn't mean to hijack the thread

This is why this sort of thing is so subjective - I like both Alexis Bledel and Lauren Graham and disliked most of the male characters.

In What about Bob - I simply did not find it clever or funny - it was harmless enough for that sort of movie - I don't think it is wrong that others did find it funny -it is just not my particular kind of humor. And not everyone is going to find the same things funny and some people do like to think about why films are funny or not or what it means when a film is or is not. I don't find it that interesting but it is not wrong that some people do (and some go to film school and somehow wind up making a living from being film critics)

Of course! Life would be boring if we all like same things!

I didn't see this movie for the first time until earlier this year... I thought it was one for the "so stupid it's funny" category...much like most of Adam Sandler's movies. It was cute. In an annoying sort of way. But I chuckled.

No, I think she was making a comparison.

I like laugh out loud kinds of comedies: Bridesmaids, Meet the Parents, most recently we watched Mom's Night Out. Never had heard of it but found it hilarious. Also like charming comedies like When Harry Met Sally, You've Got Mail, and Raising Helen.

What I don't do is allow myself to be offended to personally by a comedy. I may not appreciate the comedy. I may find it in bad taste. But it is a comedy, not a documentary. Just call it time wasted and move on.

My bad. I had no glasses on couldn't see well. I was shocked Adam sandler????

I thought meet the parents was hilarious. I do like all kind of stuff deep and shallow. Depends on my mood. I also thought hangover was surprisingly funny. I laugh Ed loud. I try not to take life too seriously and generally am easily amused.

I think Web Therapy is one of the funnier shows on tv (or was- I don't know if it's coming back next season or not).

Yes, I was making a comparison....no, this isn't an Adam Sandler movie...

But speaking of funny movies, has anyone seen The Heat? That, to me, was HILARIOUS!

I thought it was hilarious as I got all or most of the jokes in the film. I honestly thought I'd take the stuff personally but I actually allowed myself to laugh out loud and enjoy it for what it was!

I laugh out loud at movies - just not the same ones you list although the romantic comedies are not as awful to endure for me as some. My taste in movies is a tad darker in the humor (I do like The Ref however and it is not dark). I do like silly musicals - The Music Man is on right now - but I don't laugh out loud at them - I simply find them watchable.
I agree I don't find getting offended at them is a useful endeavor for me and I don't find most things offensive even when I find them not to my taste. I get bored more often than offended. Movies in general are not something I find keep my attention - I prefer to watch them, when we must, with something else to do at the same time.
