I've been seeing this T for about 2 months, and early on she said she was a "contacty" therapist. I have e-mailed her about once a week for the past month or so because I've been feeling very depressed, but I do feel terrible about taking up more time than outside the session. Her replies are only ever a few sentences (and i try not to ramble on endlessly), but they have always been really helpful.

I have this too, and OCD. I usually can't stop thinking about it 24/7 until I ask the person what they meant and I get reassured.

When I'm well there's no reason for me to call, though I may email on rare occasions. If I'm struggling, I would probably email once between weekly sessions - my t will always reply to my emails. If I was in a crisis, I would call instead of email. The most I've spoken to my t is 3 times a week, bur usually less. If in a chronic state of extreme crises I would email my t maybe 2 times a week (excluding replies). Having said that, I'm doing okay at the moment and have only initiated contact with my t once in the last 6-8 weeks (my t did initiate contact me once during that period to organise our schedule for the following week).

I send texts quite often and she encourages/supports the contact. A lot of times it's just to make sure she's still around! It also helps me to get things off of my mind so I don't obsess too much. It's not perfect and we've had our share of issues but I think overall, for me it's helped

Never have any contact with my regular therapist outside of sessions, unless one of us needs to reschedule or something. It's much the same with my uni therapist/mentor, but I have texted her a couple of times just to let her know that I did something she asked me to do as well as specifically requesting that I let her know once I'd done it, lol. There was also one time when she looked really sad as I was leaving at the end of my session; I think she felt like she hadn't been able to help me the way she would have liked to, so later that evening I sent her a text saying that I had gone straight home and completed something for my coursework and that our session had actually helped me. She replied saying "thank you for telling me." So it will just be little things like that, I suppose.

I email my T.. average twice a week, I think. When I want/need to vent, when I've come to a insight or when I feel I didn't explain something well enough in session, and when I think of something important I know I'll never dare bring up in session.
She encourages me to call 24/7 (literally! Nights, days off, weekends, everything) when I'm feeling particularly bad, anxious, have urges to hurt myself (even when they're "easy" to ignore) or have suicidal intent. I never do.
I actually dislike it when my T responds with a long email. Therapy is for during sessions; email is to give me a place to "park" my thoughts.

I email my pdoc for med issues. Sometimes he responds by calling me.
Thanks for this!

I had a former T I emailed daily. But that was because I had so much going on (I was very ill. On average 11 hospital visits, physical therapies, alternative medicine appointments a week, and I was also attending high school when I had the time) that it was impossible to inform her of all that during session and still have time to do work. So I'd email her what had happened that day, what had bothered me, and sometimes just my thoughts.
That T was amazing. Regrettably she went to work for another agency.

I have only a little out-of-session contact.

I have contacted her if I feel like I'm in crisis (which thankfully I've not had in over a year), if I need a medication refill or request a med adjustment. Sometimes I'll touch base if I've had a hard time, just because it feels good to have a check in. I usually speak only to her nurse for the basic updates or med adjustments. The two times I'd called in crisis, she returned my call herself and spoke to me for 10-15 minutes. No email or text.

I contact my therapist only on emergency basis only if the coping skills don't work . email once in a great while. calling my therapist only if a crisis situation or if im sick or will be late for my appointment.

The first one I write in order to get stuff away from me. I do not want a response.
The second has encouraged phone calls - but I don't usually think calling the woman would help and it has not helped the 4-5 times I have tried it.

I've never contacted my T between sessions. I'd quite like to, not sure what her boundaries are yet.
