I've noticed a lot of people posting about the session previous to theirs running over and theirs staring late. Or about running into your Ts other clients in the waiting room. This would of course make me very uneasy if it happened and I can understand why there are so many posts about such things, therapy can be difficult enough as it is.
Anyway it made me realise just how considerate my T must be. Sessions run for an hour and she always allows 30 mins in between clients. So I've never ever had to see anyone else either coming or going and I've never been kept waiting. It is such a huge help to at least be able to expect a very smooth and consistent start. Does anybody else's T book sessions like this or is my T just extra tuned in to what makes life easier for her clients? |

There has never been a client right before or right after me. I don't know how he spaces his appointments, but he did kind of acknowledge he does it on purpose. I much prefer it that way too

Attention and respect regarding the timing is one feature out of the many that I really appreciate in my T. We never start late and if I'm a little early, he comes out to get me almost just in the right second. Same for ending, he never appears like watching the time but has a way to end sessions exactly around the 45 min mark in a very natural and polite manner. I recall seeing another client (which I don't mind at all) after me only once but it wasn't because we were running late, she was there early. I appreciate his punctuality even more reading here how many people struggle with the timing in therapy. I am not sure how he spaces clients though in general.

My t spaces his clients out by 10-15 minutes (50 minute sessions, 10 minute breaks). I'm always very grateful. My son's t sees clients back to back, with no break (45 minute sessions around the clock). I can't imagine how son's t does it--how he doesn't get burnt out or need a break. My t has told me he finishes his notes after every client--I can't imagine how backed up son's t must get.

My T sees clients with no breaks either. Yet she always remembers and is very attentive. If she had a client go over before me I still get my full hour. She never shorts anyone and never seems overwhelmed or not focused on me.

That sounds really wonderful, and very thoughtful of your T.
My T does 50 minute sessions, and afaik usually starts on the hour (though every once in awhile he'll offer me something at quarter after). So, I assume he leaves himself 10 minutes between clients, but, it's clearly not enough... he's usually running a few minutes late, and often comes out after letting someone go to let me know he needs a few minutes. I don't think he shorts me on time (I tend to not watch the clock), so I don't worry too much about it. But, it would be really nice to have someone that was usually running on time! |

My T has at least 15 minutes between sessions. And still there has been a few times she was running late. A few times I saw a client coming out of her room just a few minutes before my session was suppose to start. Two times the client came out at the start of my time. And all those times my T got me a few minutes later than my time. Yes, it could be worse. She could be more than 10 minutes late. But I don't like it when even she's ''only'' a few minutes late. Every time it was because she let the client before my stay later and she never lets me stay late. Maybe a minute or so, but never that long so that the client after me would have to wait. It's just not fair. I'm always on time, so she should start on time too. There were maybe 2 or 3 times that we ran over time, but then she didn't had a client after me.

My previous T always started like 1-2 minutes late, and ended on time (45 min), nor did i ever see any other clients. That was fine with me.
My new T usually starts about 10-15 minutes late, but runs usually a full hour or a little bit more, and does back to back clients. I didn't really like the 10-15 min late at first, but now it doesn't bother me, probably because it is a Saturday and I have nowhere to be. |

My T has a few breaks throughout the day. But usually when I see her, she has a client right before me, but she is always on time. Lateness is a huge pet peeve for me, so I appreciate that.

My T sees people back to back. Once in awhile she has 15 minutes between someone. Often my sessions start late but she always makes sure I have my hour so I don't care.

In another post I mentioned this happened three times in a row but it happened a total of four times because it occurred once when I just started seeing him. I noticed that it was the same client two of the times that came out 10 minutes into my time. My T does back to back and I do think that this is not only THE issue but an issue of perhaps readiness for the next client. They should give themselves at least 5-10 minutes between sessions perhaps as a brain break. I don't know how you can go from one session right to the next without a little spacer in between.
He does give me the full time and doesn't cut it short but I'm about tired of hearing him say "sorry, running a little behind today." |
