So, did you ever google your pdoc or your T? Were you surprised by the results?

I must admit I have googled both. Nothing, nada, on T but apparently pdoc is a big shot pdoc in NYC and has a small evening practice where we go. Lots of awards and stuff. I wasn't surprised but I like that he has a solid professional reputation. It makes me feel secure. Did you ever google your pdoc or T?]web page[/url]

I would like to just say that I was following Alex's lead....

and yes I had already googled him...I confess. However, I had not dug so far as to hear of the big fish. I know he enjoys to fish though...

Damn... 3 more days to see that fine gentleman.

I've always done this. Most of the time I do it before I go see them for the first time to find a picture. Sometimes I find things that I don't really want to do, but I always google them.

The new t that I am seeing tomorrow is really into gardening. I found some gardening articles that she wrote. Did you ever google your pdoc or T?

I did once or twice to find out if he was recommended on any therapist websites. This was in the beginning of therapy.

No one had written a review yet on citysearch so I did! I've never looked for anything personal or professional like articles though.

I google my therapist. It's how I found her email. One of my insiders had the guts to email her, and we've been talking every day (when she works) through email ever since.

Yes, I did google his name. I needed to know what was out there about him on the Internet to see if I could risk writing checks to his name, which my husband would see. It turned out T's name is out there associated with divorce, and I didn't want my husband to know that I was seeing a divorce expert at the time, so I paid in cash only. It was really helpful to get that information. Yay, Internet! Later, when I was getting really intensely attached to T, I searched further, and found some interesting stuff that told me more about his life and who he was as a person, plus photos, which were nice to have to look at to help me stay connected between sessions.

I googled both. Pdoc there wasn't anything interesting. For T I found some professional articles she wrote. It was interesting to read what she must be particularily interested in professionally. I also found an old site that had postings for some groups she had led that provided some insight into the types of therapy she is open to.

When t and i touched on the topic of my 'not normal' sibling. I got curious about her 'countertransference response' . How dare she say my sib is not normal?! I had a gut feeling it was coming from her own drama with a perhaps 'not normal' child in her family.
So I googled her. And discovered a daughter who is lesbain. Yeah, pretty 'abnormal' for a t who seems so healthy and put-together.

I am not gay but I found your reply hurtful. Since when is being gay "abnormal"? It doesn't say anything good or bad about your therapist that her daughter is gay. Your t could be healthy and "put together" and so can her daughter. It is just who she is.

I know straight people who have "abnormal" kids.

Okay--I take it all back.

I googled T last night and found his smiling face in a profile. It stated his aproach as humanistic/psychodynamic! Who Knew?

Now I can look at his face whenever I want. Did you ever google your pdoc or T?

(Or throw darts at it whenver I need) Did you ever google your pdoc or T?

i always google to check they haven't been hit up for major leage malpractice (sexual relations with clients) or something like that. i figure it would show up through google if there had been an inquiry. either in the public health records, or the court records, or the newspaper records, or whatever.

first hit for my current t is a coroners inquest into one of his patients. he was absolved from responsibility. i read the entire report. %#@&#! of a situation really. felt compassion for him, i guess. he handled himself okay. genuinely. not sure why, but i got that sense. that he was a deeply ethical person. honest. meant a lot to me.

then... lots of stuff on his position in the public service / hospital (including his income and the like) lol.

There's not much online about either T or Pdoc, but after my first session with my T I found a church newsletter that gave her sexual orientation, partner's name, religion, and adoption status of one of her kids. That was a lot of personal information to digest about someone I really didn't know, but strangely, it only made me like her more.

Izzyparker, I don't think gay is 'abnormal', not at all. 'Abnormal' seems to have been her countertransference response to my mentally ill sibling. Mentally ill people are not either 'abnormal'.

I would Google my T but then have to tell her I'd been thinking about and searching for her online and anything I found and that was almost harder to do than the searching/finding. Fortunately the only thing that ever came up at all for sure was her doctoral dissertation and I couldn't even understand the title as a whole :-)

When I was telling her about how I almost bought the dissertation but figured since I couldn't understand the title there probably wouldn't be much of "her" in it, so probably not worth the money, she laughed and explained what the dissertation project had been about and how boring/useless it was but that back when she had to do it, that was a current "in" topic and there hadn't been much choice :-)

I just googled my psychiatrist and when I googled his name I found nothing. But when I googled his book, Stop Arguing and Start Understanding, I found some results. It's kind of weird that I can find my psychiatrist on the Internet. I can't explain it but to know that your current therapist is partly famous is just bizarre.

I searched the licensing site to see if my pdoc had any violations. I have not googled him and I am not sure I want to…it might feel strange.

A lot of states now have state board websites where you can search your doc's background and it will often list if they've had any board action taken against them. Of course, it doesn't always tell the whole story as I found out the hard way. My pdoc has an arrest record (actually more than once) and that's not on the the website nor is the fact that he's appeared before the state board for sexual misconduct which he managed to get away with because I wouldn't testify against him (that will always be part of his file but not open to the public). When I found out he had lied to me about his marital status (said he was divorced) I did a little deeper digging and that's when I found out he has multiple arrests. I looked up a therapist here in the city I live in and she had been in trouble with the state board (she is an LMFT) for violating confidentiality - needless to say I never made an appointment with her - so it does help at times.
