I am hurt, my T thinks I am OK and just need to talk to family and friends. Doesn't think I need help anymore. He said I could come back, sometime but I won't now. I'm so sad. I don't know what to do. Any advice?

hold close to the ones who love you and those who care about you....be proud of yourself for achieving what you have accomplished with your therapist. ...he believes you have done well....and is encouraging you to go out there and give it a try.... and he left it open that you can come back....you are not alone....hug everyone you see. |

winterbaby, how often do you see your T? Maybe you could see him/her less frequently for a while (like maybe once a month?), then stop, with the option to go back. I would think it would be hard to quit cold turkey. I'm hoping that eventually when I stop therapy, I would still go back to see my T once every few months. I think studies have shown that can help people from relapsing for certain types of complaints (e.g. depression).

How long have you seen this T and do you like him/her?
What are YOUR goals for this therapy? You need to let your T know if you have other goals that have not been achieved. I also agree with Sunrise that you can go less frequently and taper off.... cold turkey is rough. |

I've seen him for a year and I think my goals have been achieved it's so hard to just walk away though. I was tapering off, I guess I should be over it by now but it's still hard. I think like someone else posted, maybe he really does believe I can do it on my own for awhile. that's sort of validating and I never thought about it that way.

Congrats on achieving your goals!!! I still think a tapering off would have been nice but... good for you on your good work.

Terminating is just like leaving a friend or place of employment, moving house, etc. It takes awhile to "get over" it and settle in the new "place." It's okay to miss your T and the work you did together. I terminated two years ago and still miss mine sometimes.
