A friend of mine lived in San Antonio for a few years and it was not as awful being there as she was worried living in texas was going to be.

eek! i am so afraid of this happening to my hair! I already swear that my whites (what i call my "grey" hair even though they look white to me!) aren't as curly as my regular hair, and i'm in mourning. I didn't even think about menopause! Though I do have a few years before that happens...

Yeah, i'm a gnostic atheist, and my T says she believes in "everything," (whatever that means...i didn't pursue it), but is completely secular in her therapist-y ways.

LOL! Don't worry. Texas is, first of all, HUGE and the major metropolitan areas are pretty progressive. We aren't all Bible-thumping, cowboys riding around on our horses. We don't all have crazy Texas twang accents. (I'm always amazed how many people have a very stereotypical idea of what Texas will be like, and part of it comes because people really have no concept of how big Texas is which means that different areas in Texas have very different cultures: Hispanic culture dominates from about San Antonio south; Austin area is very artsy with a strong German influence in spots of the hill country; Houston and Dallas have a huge conglomeration of people from every walk of life. Lots of cultural activities in any of the major cities.) I live in the Dallas area and I run into more people who are not native Texans than native Texans anymore. People have moved here from other states in droves because we have many jobs and the living is comparatively affordable to much of the rest of the county. Texas can be as progressive or conservative as you make it; there is PLENTY of variety to go around. The state gets a bad rap because our crazy conservative politicians but I see that starting to change -- lots of push-back going on, but the people themselves are pretty moderate for the most part. As in all things, it depends on who you hang with.

Being in Texas, I've had no problem finding a therapist who didn't push a religious agenda on me. Even the therapists I had who I knew were quite personally religious kept it out of sessions.

I've lived in several different metropolitan areas in Texas (Houston, Corpus, and Dallas), and I can say all of the above has applied in all of them. Texans tend to be very friendly people and I wouldn't choose to live anywhere else in the world.

Congratulations on your new position!

She can call it whatever she likes so long as she shares her cake.

(Unless it's carrot cake, in which case, she can keep it all for herself.)

I don't think I've ever called myself a hippie.

For one thing, I qualify better as a preppy.

For another, I'm too young to be a hippie.

Thank you so much for this. I keep wondering how much of my problem is really my own biases and stereotypes. When I visited I had a great experience, friendly people etc. the manager I interviewed with , upon being asked by me " What is the best way to culturally fit in?" He said "don't be an @$$hole". Advice I will do my best to follow.

I am a late middle aged preppy who does not mind carrot cake. It is not my favorite but it can be good. I dislike pineapple in it when made that way.

I love the Dallas area. I'm in a town just north of the metroplex. I like it much better than I did Houston. Dallas has fairly decent zoning, so it's pretty clean. SO much to do in and around the metroplex. Good shopping if you are into that kind of thing. Lots of cultural activities. Great schools in the suburban areas. There are definite cultures to the various neighborhoods and communities that make them very distinct. Living is more affordable the further out you get from downtown more or less. Decent transportation system if you need to commute into downtown.

Afternoon, couch! I had quite a lovely and warm session today with t. I guess because I was thinking about a recent poll, the first thing I said to t today (after good morning, of course) was "I love you. It just wanted to be said today." And she thanked me and said "there's a lot of love in the room." And then I shared the poem I wrote about the picture on her wall, she thought there was a sense of the mystical in it, she loved the image of the "mirror-table", she seemed very touched by the poem. Then I read her a dream from a few nights ago that she deemed another "big" dream, and we discussed our thoughts about it, and she said that I seemed very grounded today which yes I am, and I told her about the communications specialist thing at work that I interviewed for yesterday, and she said "Text me when you find out if you got it!" We talked about how things are with my h now, and a little about my son, about our refi closing yesterday... she said this coming into myself is a result of all of my hard work, and thanked me for working so hard, and I said thank you for your part, and we marveled together a little bit at how "this stuff really does work!" and then I looked at the clock and time was already up somehow, so I gave her my check and verified my next session and stood up to leave, and she said "It feels like there's something missing." At that point I wanted to hug her, but something stopped me I'm not sure what it was. It's never been a problem when I've asked for a hug in the past. I don't know if that's what she thought was missing or not. I didn't feel like anything was missing, it was kinda odd to actually finish on time, but... anyway it was a very good session and I'm feeling all warm and fuzzy still.

Now I'm back home and the real world has intruded but I shall not allow it to harsh my mellow. My h messed up his computer again somehow so I have to re-install windows... I shall have fun with it.
