H goes to Costco because it's still cheaper, even if we got vision insurance! I really need to get another eye exam and get new reading glasses (currently using readers from the store). Just lazy...

Evening, couch.

I am just checking in. I am caught up on the couch and am not sure how to jump in since I am not that into reading anymore. I was a avid reader in elementary-high school, but lost interest in college and never gained it back. I lost interest about the time my psychosis started, but I don't know if there is any connection.

CVS was crazy today. I was typing. We were so swamped at every station that no one made the phone calls, so we have to try to do 2 rounds tomorrow, since we are supposed to get 2 rounds done every weekend. I have my work cut out for me.

We had 10 people jump in line 5 minutes before we closed, so all of us ended up staying 15 minutes late. Silly people waiting until the last minute. :\

I stopped and got supper on the way home. I ate it all and am pretty stuffed. It was yummy though.

Well, I need to go do some work for my master's course (I am in my 4th one). Be back later, couch.

I like cake, but don't generally like icing, unless it's, say, cream cheese icing. For some reason, the icing tends to make me feel sick, especially if it's like from a grocery store. I'm thinking it might be artificial colors or preservatives or something. I always feel awkward opting out of cake at a party, but I try to just to avoid the sick feeling. (It's not sweets, either--I'm fine with things like cookies or ice cream.)

The Making of Americans by Stein.

Fun for all.
If you want Russian guys, Crime and Punishment is a good choice (Granted, I took separate Dostoevsky and Tolstoy classes in college, so maybe you shouldn't listen to me...yes, I've made it through War & Peace, except for about 50 pages I skipped in the middle...don't recommend that one!)

A bit more contemporary: The Heart is a Lonely Hunter by Carson McCullers is quite lovely (though also depressing...)

For more contemporary authors, Margaret Atwood is a favorite. Cat's Eye is a good one. Blind Assassin is amazing, but rather complex (story within a story thing going on).

I like Grapes of Wrath. Wuthering Heights is one of my favorites though. And I like carrot cake. Most types of cakes actually.

No Steinbeck for me. And I prefer homemade cookies to cake. The problem for me is that cake comes with frosting and I don't like frosting. Except for cream cheese frosting.

Wuthering Heights is good, though it's been a long time since I've read it.

Made the most delicious dinner.

Taco spaghetti. (black beans, garlic, taco spice, spaghetti noodles, onion, tomatoes, green chilies, sour cream, and Monterey jack). With a side of romaine, tomato, and homemade avocado/cilantro/lime dressing. Sooo good. I feel so much better after giving up most of my meat.

Atwood's Penelopiad is good. We'd have to read it together with the Odyssey, though, since it's Penelope's version.

I don't remember the turtle crossing in Grapes of Wrath, but I do remember the ending - i suppose it is a little shocking, but also life-affirming.

LT, isn't there some long digression on hunting in the middle of War and Peace? Maybe that's what you skipped?

I am on what's turning into a very long layover. I won't be home till the wee hours at this rate. What are the odds that junior cat will be worried?

(No, the cat is not untended - the neighbor girls down the hall are minding him. However, I believe they were plotting to try to dress him up in baby clothes. )
Thanks for this!

A Prayer for Owen Meaney is one of my favorite books. I did like Oryx and Crake, though.

Anna Karenina was.... I am just not a fan.

Is it just me? So I saw a pic on facebook of one of my friends wearing an unusual necklace that I have an exact duplicate of, so I commented that I have the same necklace. One of her friends commented "In your dreams" I was thinking, how rude, you don't even know me and you're calling me a liar! Oh well. It's facebook what do I expect. I know the truth... and my mellow today cannot be harshed!

In other news, hubby's computer is working fine again. After reinstalling, next I had to go onto all of the web sites that he has logins/passwords for and retrieve usernames/passwords for them because he doesn't know any of them (!) They are all now recorded and in a file. But I got it all done, go me!

I have not - but I know it is supposed to be one of the best natural ones. Green tea and hawthorn are also good.
