He was nice. Except that he wants to try to get me off my meds. He said that he wouldn't drastically take me off them, however, when I looked at my Xanax prescription, it was only written for 16 instead of the usual 60. So I called the last psychiatrist I saw and left a message. At least he didn't say anything about taking me off of my medicine.

I really miss my former pdoc.

I don't know if it's my clinic, the city, maybe the state? But they reduced the number of sedatives a doctor can prescribe. My Pdoc can only give me 15 Ativan a month. And if I want Clonazepam, I have to wait for the next month.

So maybe there's new rules?

I was thinking something like this, a law on prescribing. Or maybe since you're a new patient, he'll only give you a certain amount until he knows you better? I had to practically beg my now-former psychiatrist (she left the practice) for like 5 Ativan since she didn't believe me that I wouldn't mix them with alcohol (she knows I drink).

I agree that he may just want to get to know you better and see how frequently you take the Xanax before giving you that amount, since it is so addictive. I took Xanax for sleep a few years ago and took it every night, so I refilled the script like clockwork each month. He didn't feel comfortable with that and suggested I wean off it. Once off, he prescribed me klonopin and started with me 30 pills per month. Then it changed to 60, because I wasn't refilling them regularly. A bottle of 60 usually lasts me about 3 months. Some are just careful like that. You could ask to see if that's it.

I'm noticing insurance companies are putting caps on how many of certain meds they will pay for. I was looking into new med insurance and they called an anti depressant I have taken in the past at 15 pills a month... it's a low-level, low-dose a/day, yet they are restricting it... I Kinda think everything is moving in that direction at least in the us. The government is also getting more strick about med scripts for potentially addictive meds.

Xanax is highly addictive and strong. There might be a reason he is careful prescribing too much of it right away before he even knows you well. It could be insurance concern but I doubt it. My exbf was on bunch of different Meds that he never had limitations on any of that with the exception of Xanax. He was only prescribed limited amount. Have you considered loresapam (Ativan)? Less addictive and milder overall. He might not limit that.
