After starting this thread, I walked away to do dishes. The next thought of hate was lima beans. Then I though-hmm, maybe I'll like them if I make them different some day, like I grew to like brussel sprouts (cooked a certain way-like FJ said). Then I come back, and there were 2 threads that mentioned lima beans and brussel sprouts. Then I logged in and saw the third! Oooo

It looks like food is the trend now.

Brussels sprouts with bacon are delicious. Cook the bacon up crispy, half/quarter the sprouts and cook 'em up in the grease (not too much! They should crunch), add the crumbled bacon back in the pan. I like some minced garlic in there, too, and you can add some toasted pine nuts if you want to get fancy.

A cashier *asking* you if you want to pay it forward goes against the basic spirit / norm of paying it forward (the gift economy system more broadly). The only thing they could / should do is tell you that your meal has been paid for and leave it at that -- only if you actually ask what you can do, should they offer the info of how you can contribute and even then, it's *not* about paying for the next person as much as what do you feel like giving (which could be even a few cents or nothing) in exchange.
