Hi, just feeling a bit frustrated and powerless in dealing with my family today and feel anxious and alone like it's a burden I alone have to carry and no way out of it either (my family itself is struggling and several with mental health issues though sometimes when you feel angry at how they behave it's hard not to feel angry towards them). I have a couple of books on mindfulness but nothing on power and empowerment itself.

Yesterday I was trying to search for quotes on empowerment, something to inspire me everyday. I don't even know if inspirational books should be mentioned in the same category but right now I got no real social support in or outside the family, and the only places I share my emotions are here and with my T who is away for a few weeks.

I appreciate either some book recommendations or even kind or reassuring words to help me get through this for now. Thank you all.

I'm sorry things are so awful now.

My T hasn't suggested any books etc but when it comes to anything related to my family, she has repeatedly asked that I not get involved and step waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay back from their stuff.

I'm quite far from being able to do it though -- so, I get the struggle.

Take care.

My T recommended a book to me called "I'm ok - you're OK by Thomas A. Harris"
I've bought it, but haven't read it yet so can't say if it's any good. My T seemed to think it was a good read though!
It's about gaining control of your relationships and your future.

My T suggested "Codependent No More." It's a bit old-school and preachy for me (I'm agnostic leaning towards atheist...) I don't like books that tell me to 'trust in god' for any reason but it has some stuff about taking care of oneself rather than others and owning my own role in the dynamic of unhealthy relationships.
I found that empowering.

Brené Brown has some great stuff too.
Thanks for this!

My therapist has recommended the book "The Courage to Heal" it deals with childhood sexual abuse. I still have not read it as it is very triggering for me.
