Ok, here's the deal.

I am trying to find some records of mine that have apparently disappeared off the face of the earth. Many moons ago (like 20 years) I was hospitalized for a suicide attempt. I think I was 13. I was admitted to Charter Behavioral Hospital here in Augusta, GA. Now, we all know what happened to Charter a few years ago. . .they more or less went waaaaaaaaaaay under. I don't really care about all of that. What I care about is HOW do I get my records?

Anyone who works in the hospitalization industry got any ideas for me? Is it common for them to store them somewhere? And if so, how do I find out where? I know that medical records can't be destroyed (in GA anyway) until the patient dies. I ain't dead yet. I want my records.

Good question. Have you contacted the State of Georgia Department of Health (or equivalent)?

I don't know what it means, but I think they're on this list?

I'd e-mail these people?

There are companies that retrieve medical records that my company uses. The one we use is called EMSI but I'm afraid I don't know any more than that.

Each state has a state insurance comissioner and their office might be able to point you in the right direction.

just some thoughts. hope they help!
