I had a session with my pdoc today. I was not feeling good and spending most of my time looking at the floor or his books or his shoes. I told him that sometimes between sessions I have problems remembering what he looks like (although I have been seeing him for several years). So he talked me into looking him right in the face. I looked at him for awhile and then he raised both his hands, waved at me and gave me a silly smile. Of course, I could not help but smile back. Sometimes, the little things like that make me have that much more faith in him. Not only is he good at managing my meds, but he also knows how to make me smile when I am having a rough time. Now, I will get to carry that smile around with me for awhile.

DePressMe, I love that he did that! Like giving you a living photograph to carry with you. I wonder if it makes you smile just thinking about it.

I had a pdoc who made me smile or laugh every time. He was very busy throughout the visit with the med management stuff, especially because it was a community mental health clinic which meant a lot of paperwork to be done, but he had a way of slipping something funny in somewhere and that lifted my spirits so much. I always left, after his warm handshake given with a smile that included his eyes, feeling lighter.

I'm so glad for you that you have such a great pdoc!

How sweet! I love when people will be silly/genuine to help me.

Aww silly smiles are awesome.
My therapist has a "therapeutic game" that she sometimes plays with my little alters. One of the things she had to do was be silly. We always have that image of her when she says "Remember silly me?" Sometimes we think of it at really weird times and it always makes us crack a smile!
