Hey guys, I'm considering an inpatient treatment for my depression. Not an acute hospitalization, but a program to develop better coping skills.

I searched the net over and over, and didn't find much.

Only one sort of called my attention, one 6-8 weeks in TX.

Anybody knows about any program? Anyone has tried one?
I think I would really benefit from a supportive 24-7 enviroment....

Any suggestions or advice greatly appreciatied.

Annie, you have to interact and talk to people; T, PDoc, hospital people. There aren't any "textbooks" that can help us cope better that all we have to do is read.

If you just want coping skills though, have you thought about trying online counseling? http://www.metanoia.org/ That way you could just e-mail. I've done that a couple of times.

Where do you live, how old are you? There are lots of psychiatric hospitals that have inpatient programs:

((Annie'smind))

Is there any family member or T to refer you or help you?
How about starting at the closest emergency room? Or call NAMI--National Mental Health Alliance--they have regional support.

NAMI

Best of luck.

How are you feeling today? I am a bit confused by your wanting inpatient, but not acute, yet you want urgent advice.

Do you have a therapist or a counselor to talk with? There might be a local hospital that has outpatient assistance, and that way if you do become overwhelmed and into crisis they can "easily" admit you.

TC.

Hello Annies mind. You might try a search for retreats or workshops in your area. Some of those are intense and last a weekend or week. I have been to a few in Indiana. They really helped me.

Guys, thanks for your replies.

I now realize that my original post was not very clear.

Maybe a few details can help for some input.

I'm not in a crisis. I suffer from depression. And have tried meds, therapy, group therapy, without much success.

What I'm looking for is, a sort of "program/treatment" for depression. I want it to be inpatient because it will provide a full inmersion kind of experience.

Sort of like a "day hospital" or "day program", but as an inpatient.

I'm 23 and live in TX.
I found just one which seems to meet what I'm looking for,

it;s @ the Menninger Clinic,

if you guys want to check it out, tell me what you think...or maybe someone knows about some similar program.

http://www.menningerclinic.com/p-compass/index.htm

But I would like to know if anybody's heard about it,...and also check out some alternate options.

Thanks guys!

Update...I just went today to be assesed at my local mental health center...

It was good. I mean, I felt good that I took that step.

They offer there a day treatment. Which seems like a good option till I decide what to do.

The social worker there told me after the assesment that the day program sounds like a great option for me.

They have group therapy, individual therapy, and activities such as art-therapy and music-therapy.

Sounds good, and I'm excited about it.
Still need to go in tomorrow to see a doctor, and after that's done I will probably get started.

It's not exactly what I was looking for (inpatient) but seems like it could help. It's a step forward.

Please guys, let me know if you happen to hear about any inpatient program, since I'm still considering that option.

Thanks a lot

It looks like it will be a "focus" for you which might do almost as well as inpatient? You'll have a routine/place to go each day. Probably is not nearly as expensive or worrisome as a full-blown inpatient sort of thing.
