So can I just complain for a minute? It isn't really about therapy. And I posted this on another one of the forums, but this is the forum where I feel like I know people. So I'd like to complain again here. You don't have to read it if you don't want. It isn't about therapy. Though I'll probably need therapy to cope... Will you guys let me complain?

I hereby officially complain that I have been dumped on by life. My friends tried to cheer me up by talking me into going to a Halloween party tonight. I hated the theme (rock 'n' roll), but I finally got up the motivation to go out to a costume shop and see if I could find something. Came away with a cute little Cher costume. And then last night one of my friends calls me to tell me that my ex-boyfriend and his girlfriend will also be at the party and dressed as Sonny and Cher... How f$%ed up is that?!

2007 has just been complete %#@&#! for me. Got laid off from work, my ex started seeing someone new, and now my efforts to try to be cheerful and be part of life just got dumped on by weird coincidences....

If I don't bail altogether on the party, I'll probably have a hangover from hell tomorrow.

Sidony

Weird crappy coincidences for sure, but.. the effort you put into deciding about going, getting a costume, and psyching yourself up to go are real accomplishments and you should be proud of those.

Maybe you could change your costume and go as the tree that Sonny skiied into.....

Thanks. My feeling of being psyched up is gone for sure now though. Will you guys let me complain?

Yeah I'm considering bailing. But I do have lots of friends who will be there and I've told many of them I'm coming. So it's hard to manage. And I always enjoyed the Halloween party in the past.

So I don't know. It's just all screwed up.

I could go out somewhere (not to the party) in my costume, but I wouldn't know anyone. Will you guys let me complain?

Sounds like you want to go, but you're angry that your ex and his new g/f will be there. Hard call, but you could decide to go and then leave if it's too uncomfortable.

It sounds like the majority of the people who will be there are ones you'd really like to see and to be with, so why not go with that in mind and let yourself have fun!

You can make plans for if it doesn't work out and you don't want to stay. Such as having a nice take-out like Mouse suggested.

Thanks Echoes,

My friend who let me know about my ex's costume called him (at my request) to let him know how I was dressing so it could be slightly less awkward. Ultimately it's still pretty damned awkward, but it's too frikkin' late to change costumes. And now if I don't go it becomes some kind of statement or something. %#@&#! this.

After this, I think I want to get away from everyone except my T and those to whom I'm blood-related. I just want to reinvent my life and try to forget the past. Not because the past was bad but because it was good. Will you guys let me complain?

yeah I feel that way too, only I don't even include relatives Will you guys let me complain?

Not going says you choose to not go. That can be any number of reasons...perhaps you were invited somewhere else that was more what you wanted to do, for example.

I had a T a long time ago who taught me to say "I have other plans" when I chose to not do something for whatever reason. I said, but I don't have other plans! He said your other plans... are to not go. I never thought of it that way.

You've had a really hard time with being laid off (((( sidony ))) and ending a relationship. It takes time to work through the loss(es) and change(s).

I think possibly the party and the ex going to be there have stirred things up that may have started to settle down a bit when you found your job and maybe began feeling back on track?

(edited for spelling & grammar! Will you guys let me complain? )
