I'm sorry you are feeling so bad. I'm glad you were able to talk it out here some. I hope you write more if it is helpful. I don't think anyone would be angry. You are just saying how you feel. Btw, I don't think you are unworthy. ((Hugs))

Nobody here hates you and I'm sorry you don't feel like you're being understood at all, so I can understand the frustration. Maybe it's not just you. Is the other person really trying to listen?

So, I’m beginning to think there’s something to the idea of chemistry when it comes to therapists as well — or at the very least, some therapists know how to create the sense of chemistry with a client like me and some don’t / won’t.

I just cheated on Blondie with a therapist who on paper makes me absolutely swoon — ridiculously high credentials, terrific writing (academic and otherwise), bats it out of the park on stuff like cultural differences in analysis and so on.

And the session was just..............a.w.k.w.a.r.d (even by my admittedly low standards). We struggled to find anything to say past the first few minutes when I finished giving her a quick spiel about myself. I was actually looking at the clock waiting for the hour to pass rather desperately.

Sigh. So Blondie it is for now.

Kinda like dating perhaps? xD

The truth would of course be unbearably mundane in comparison.

I interviewed some that I had that experience with. With those it was dull and empty.

As I recall it does. But it has been awhile and I don't remember finding it depressing at all. I did not hate the therapist that much but the other main character (client) was an annoying whiner to me. (for those who don't know -It is the story of a woman who hires a therapist and it is told in parts from both her point of view/life and that of the therapist's view and life).
I enjoyed the style of the writing and it was a lesbian character. Not great literature by any means.

August by Judith Rossner was probably better written. But I did enjoy Other Women well enough. It is also possible that I have slogged through so much bad earlier (50s -80s) lesbian pop writing (distinguished from the Left Bank writers or Radclyffe Hall (talk about depressing story lines although I do like her writing) etc) that I am somewhat inured to it.
