Couch 176: The happy cake couch

Oh, the therapist will by default assume that I am acting out because I am, in fact, an angry person and am frequently angry with her and have threatened not to come to sessions.

Much of my session today ended up being about attachment. My eyes are still burning from tears. He said some good stuff, but also some stuff that bothered me (particularly regarding what happened with ex-MC). I sent T a long email, giving him option of longer (paid) response or responding in the session he offered (when I asked) Wednesday. Curious and anxious to see which one he chooses...I am due to see him Friday, but then I'll be out of town, then he'll be off a few days, so will be 12 days or so between sessions, which is a long time when I'm used to twice a week. We may be able to do 15- or 30-minute phone session while I'm away though.

Feeling down, gonna just make these Alexia onion rings in freezer to eat, that might make me feel better. [After trying one] Oh...these are like...healthy onion rings! That totally defeats the purpose! I mean, I ate them, but...

I was unhealthy for you. I ate ice cream. Again. Dang it. I really need to get a handle on my emotions right now.

I think it would be better in the long run to go. You seem to be on the edge of some big progress.

You seem to be trying to establish dominance over your T. And I can certainly sympathise with that!

However, Ts are trained not to let the patient establish dominance, because a dominant patient is not open to suggestion and makes very little progress.

Now it may feel like your T is trying to establish dominance over you, and of course you're not going to let that happen. But it doesn't have to be a dominance relationship in either direction. You can be allies.

I don't suppose the power struggle ever really stops (mine didn't), but most of the progress is made in the gaps between the fights.

Anyone else hate the new Gmail so far?

This actually is the opposite of what I have been taught as far as any class I have taken so far that involves counseling. I was actually taught the quicker the balance of power is more equalized the better the relationship develops.

Yeah... they moved my college email over to that platform and I'm not getting along very well with it so far. Hopefully our instructor for my class starting day after tomorrow won't send a lot of email....

I just opted for the "use Classic Gmail" option. I feel like a fuddy duddy. Hopefully they'll let us keep that.

My person and I had to practice her saying no right before any meeting with the chair, the dean, or the provost of our university. She had a very hard time saying no - even after she was a full professor with an endowed chair.
