Did you blanch or freeze the cabbage beforehand? That would make the big leaves bendier. Also maybe just slice thru the big rib a bit?

I've been mia the past few days. Been basically in bed from this horrible cold and no voice. It's probably a sight to see me yelling at my kids without a voice.

My kids just giggle like crazy, the louder I scream, the more like Minnie Mouse I sound.

I had to run to the store for a few items and the sight of the boxed wine my h used to drink and once attacked me with triggered me. I'm very trigger happy this week.

RE: cabbage leaves--una's right about blanching the leaves. Try dunking in a large pot of boiling water, testing after 30 seconds. Float them in a big bowl of cold water when you take them out of the hot water until cool.

I learned the hard way after being halfway through a Polish cabbage roll soup recipe.

I had an odd thing happen to me the other night.. I was driving home from class at night. I was on a familiar interstate I take all the time. All of a sudden while I was driving, I had no idea where I was. Nothing like familiar. It was like I was seeing signs that I have seen before, but I still felt lost. I was panicked. It was a short amount of time, then I was fine.

It wasn’t disassociation.. This felt different. I google sudden confusion and most google dx were like brain infection, stroke, etc.. none of which I have any signs of. Soooo.. I wonder if my mind can be affected so much by stress I just kind of lost it for a minute.

Anybody experience anything like this before?

Yes, I did the same thing driving to my sister's house once. I didn't recognize any landmarks for maybe one minute. I knew to keep going but only because I didn't know how to get anywhere from there. It passed and I felt like an idiot. (((Healed))) I was super stressed during that time, so I blamed it on that. I hope you're not having any cognitive decline!

It’s girls weekend for me. I’ve had a little more wine than usual, and we learned a new card game, which I won.

I love my friends. They are fiercely supportive, and I can talk to them about almost everything. They keep saying, “I just want you to be happy.” I don’t even know quite what that means.... (Of course I know what they literally mean. I just...I think it’s not that simple.)

Beach tomorrow.

I did put them in boiling water but took them right back out thinking it was only supposed to be dipped in the water. The leaves were so tough. If I had cooked/blanched the cabbage longer, I still don't see how I would have gotten more than 6 leaves to wrap. Maybe it was an extra tough cabbage and too small. Never thought of freezing it. Hmm.

It ended up being a cabbage-meatloaf bake. It was good. That sauce was unique.

Thanks for the tips.

I'm so happy that you have friends like that!

I have a group of them too that I try to visit once a year, they live back near my old hometown. Usually in the summer (the last one was in early July) and we spend a weekend together and it's so soul-feeding. Fiercely supportive is how I'd describe my girls too. We have a private facebook group, email, and texting to keep connected in between the yearly girls weekends thankfully! Last time we all started making noises about doing it twice a year. I am all for that!

Enjoy the beach!

This has happened to me but it was dissociation. I do think that stress can trigger something like that, but if it was stress, it would still fall under the umbrella of dissociation imo. Not feeling familiar with surroundings can also be derealization, but I see that as a form of dissociation.

Other than dissociation, things that affect your chemistry can cause that-kidneys, hormones, infection, liver, blood sugar. Something as simple as blood sugar spike could explain sudden confusion. Or if you'd eaten something that imbalanced your electrolytes. If it happens again, I'd get it checked out be a doctor.

It does sound like a stress reaction.

This is very nice.

I miss having a group of friends. I've relocated several years ago and had trouble making friends in this city and kind of gave up as I had too many other problems at the time that took up too much of my energy/resources.

How do you make friends when you are older? I don't have social anxiety or anything and have never had problems making friends until I got depression. Wanting to regain a social life and having moved past the worst of the depression, I'm not sure how.

As an older adult I was only making work-friends until I found the shamanic drumming meetup.com group I belong to. That was the best way for me - find an established group of like-minded people and join it. I felt very at home with them from the get go.

Going back to school probably would too if I'd stop being so shy and talk more with my classmates. I feel so much older than most of them.... I am I suppose - so it feels kinda weird.

When I moved to a new city, I joined a lot of meetup groups (through meetup.com) and met a bunch of people that way. I still do them occasionally, but I have also got involved with my church. Finding a hobby that you like and other people to do it with can help. But it is hard at first. I found it very hard being out of college and trying to make friends.
