Good job I didn't have to take your exam, Lemon...I had to Google it to find out what it was.

I agree with the music thing as I go to bed between 8 and 9 (I get up between 4 and 5 on workdays) the last thing I want to hear is somebody's music all loud when I'm trying to get my zzzzz's. Kit

I don't know how old she is. She might be closer to the cutoff between Gen-X and millennial, which is 1981. But, IDK, what's wrong with decorating gingerbread houses? We worked in small teams doing something not work-related. At least it wasn't trust falls or something horrifying like that.

My team building exercises have always been weirdly nothing to do with my actual job, like standing in a circle tossing a ball, for strategy and communication. Once we had to plan step by step how we would survive a natural disaster. I just enjoyed the paid time off work.

I'm going to gut my dryer tonight in hopes of avoiding a call to a repair person. Worst thing that can happen, I will have to call a repair person. Best case scenario, I fix it! What could possibly go wrong? /sarcasm

My favorite team building thing was when I worked in telecom in the CA Bay area and we went on a hike on mt tamalpais or however you spell it. I was pregnant with my son on that hike. Man that was a long time ago now. Feels like a lifetime ago.

Our staff meetings always include team building activities like finding people with your birthday month or asking about first jobs, etc. etc. I don’t think I wo7ld hate them so much if we were on the clock but having to sit through them outside of contract hours makes me very sour.

And doing holiday themed stuff would make me very upset. Some people don’t like to mix work and personal for a reason, and bosses forget that.

When I worked in an office for close to a decade, we never once did teambuilding.

1. Food related. 2. Female and family oriented task. 3. Holiday oriented, possible western / religious focus? 4. Three people is a triangle - problematic group size.

What were your boss's other choices? Giving each other manicures? Did she have extra gbread sets from the kids' sleepover or her Tupperware party?

Boy im cranky tonight! I better go each some peaches!
Thanks for this!

We used to do team-building when I was in management in retail. Dumb stuff like build a bridge out of straws and stuff. Whatev's. It was during meetings that we were away from the day to day job so although it wasn't the most fun to me, at least it was something different to do. We do not do team building where I work now. There's members of the team that I rarely see, or communicate with. Then again it's a small business and I could just see the owner being like, I'm not paying you guys to team build. Everyone has a certain level of autonomy here at work so he would probably find it pointless. Shrug. The people of the team that I have to communicate with daily work well together as a team. I'll step in to shipping or sales if needed, and others will step into my role if needed. We're cross-trained.

On a side note, today the owner where I work called himself hysterical because it's super hard to get the capacitors we need for our business to run smoothly and I found it hysterical that he called himself hysterical. I understand the gravity of the situation, it was just really funny the way he said it. Maybe you had to be there.

@Jersey you might want to try out PetCorrector. It's just a canister of compressed air that makes a loud hissing sound. Dogs really don't like it, so it's a good way to discourage bad behavior. I also am in favor of a swift smack on the rear end - I only ever employ this to assert my dominance when the dog is behaving aggressively towards one of its fellows. I know that sounds pretty awful, and I don't do it with my current dog because he's just too little at 6 lbs and isn't aggressive anyway, but you really have to let the dog know that aggressive behavior won't be tolerated. It's one of the few areas where it's hard to train a dog using positive reinforcement rather than aversion.

Thank you for the tips. I’ll look into the air canister if he does that to my smaller dog again. She really doesn’t have long-I’m guessing only a few months so I want her to be peaceful. He hadn’t bothered her at all since last night.

Totally.

And I'm impressed that you made it through four tries. That's persistence.

Sometimes those abandoned projects sit in the back of my head and eventually spark something entirely new, seemingly unrelated. So it's not even wasted effort.
