I usually see my T for 60 minutes once a week. I don’t feel like I need twice a week, but we’re also working on some pretty heavy stuff right now.

I just emailed him and asked him if we can do 90 minute sessions as a compromise between 60 and 120 minutes.

I just wondered if anyone else does 90 minutes?

Mine are 50 minutes two times per week. I take one session and C takes the other. I don't think I could tolerate 90 minutes.

90 minutes on a regular basis could be interesting. I've only had a session that long a handful of times (and never with my current therapist) but it does seem like doing it consistently could facilitate some interesting work if you felt like that offered enough containment for you. The times I've had 1.5 to 2 hour sessions, things either got pretty intense or felt like they were going in circles, but that was always as a one-off thing.

I do 50 minute sessions twice a week, and I find that works much better for me than once a week. Don't think I'd personally want to do 90 minutes once a week, since for me it would be very hit or miss and would put a lot of pressure on that single session.

Mine are 60 minutes twice a week. I could see 90 minutes being useful sometimes and too long and tiring other times. The only problem would be that I wouldn't know which it was until I was in the middle of the session.

I was tempted to ask for two 45 minute sessions (I would honestly prefer twice a week) but I feel like 45 minutes isn’t enough time. I don’t know if I’ll have enough material for 90 minutes EVERY week (if he even agrees to it) but knowing I have that time blocked and available if I need it would be a huge comfort.

I had 50 minute appointments with each woman. I walked in exactly on time and stood up, tossed money on the table, and walked out right on time as well.

Part of me is secretly hoping he suggests we do twice a week instead. And then I’ll say “well if I’m coming for 45 may as well make it 60” and then bam! I’ve got my two sessions a week.

same here, twice a week. In the 60 minutes, we also have to fit in scheduling and payment (I use a credit card), so generally more like 50-55 of actual therapy, though we're generally still chatting during payment (just lighter stuff usually).

2-3 hours a couple times a week. but i have DID, and there is a long line of alters always waiting to talk to her, so I might actually get a turn myself for a few minutes once every few weeks. Even when we talk longer than that it never feels like enough time because there are always more alters waiting.

50 minutes once/week. He has offered more with 2, 3 or even 4 times/week but we just can’t make it work with our work schedules.

60 mins, +/- 5-10 minutes once per week. Sometimes we start on time and go over; other times we start late and finish on time. T never abruptly ends a session but always ensures I am grounded before leaving, so it doesn't bother me that sometimes our sessions are shorter. Whenever they are it feels okay for them to be so at the time.

Payment and scheduling don't need to be done in session time (both are automatic) and we generally don't have out of session contact (I have sent her two emails in 18 months).

50 minutes.
T said she Wouldnt be able to keep doing what she does for longer
Being that intense and constantly self reflecting isn't doable for much longer.
Not if you want quality over quantity.

when i was going twice a week, i had one session for 60 mins and later requested if we could have the second session for 90 mins. what a difference having a 90 min session made in my progress! we could actually spend time getting into the nitty gritty of some of my issues and have time to get me grounded before leaving. plus it usually did not feel rushed (i dreaded feeling like i was being booted out the door just as i was starting to become comfortable and opening up about something). the last year of therapy i chose to cut back down to once a week and i kept the 90 min session because it felt too valuable to give that time slot up.
Thanks for this!

60 minutes. If I have a lot to say T will offer an optional extension to 90 minutes which I pay for, and I don't have to decide until the 60 minute mark.

My sessions are 45 minutes, 4 times per week. I've asked if it would be possible to make two of them into double session and my T rejected that idea by saying that he wouldn't be able to offer me the same quality of intense listening and observation for more than 45 minutes at a time.

I've heard that too from others - that their T would flake out after 50-60 minutes, which is the only reason I can think of that mine would say no to 90 - it's just too tiring.

50 minutes, though occasionally I leave closer to 45 or lose track of time and it's 55 or so minutes. I usually wrap up the sessions. A few times he's invited me to stay for longer and once he asked if I wanted to come back later in the week. Other times he's reminded me that I can call or email and he will try to fit me in later that week if I want to. Sometimes I have called and usually I can get in for another session that week.

If I don't bring a lot to discuss or the discussion fades out early, we've stopped after 40 minutes before. If I'm not doing well, the session can go on for about 75 minutes. Usually our sessions are between 50 and 60 minutes.
