That would explain why there is so much really bad poetry out there.
My person taught poetry every so often and she was pretty clear there was right and wrong.

i guess i meant there is no right or wrong to the poet.... eta of course one can 'do' forms or grammar incorrectly but then again.... to the poet, sometimes it works.... i dunno what i meant.

Well, overall i liked it - the correction and as it was - because it showed me something about the subjunctive as well as the original thought. Neither of which would have come to awareness if i had feared to engage.

Who are ya, Rose Kennedy? She scolded Teddy once for saying “if I was President” instead of “if I were President.”

I once wrote a poem and spent a good amount of time debating whether I meant further or farther. Still not sure.

I mean, have you ever listened to song lyrics? There's some seriously ungrammatical stuff going on there. Everyone put your red pens down for couch poetry.

There is a different forum here for poetry I think - that may (or may not) be of interest.
Ungrammatical can work if done intentionally for a point but it doesn't always come through whether it was by intent or by mistake

Definitely unintentional. All those rules about subjunctive and whatnot that una speaks of went out the window after high school. And I'm definitely not a poet. Despite the Debbie Downer subject of my haiku, I was just attempting to participate on the couch. I don't care if anyone wants to correct my grammar. I just hadn't put any thought into it at all.

My comment wasnt about correcting the grammar. I enjoy discussing grammar. SUI isnt exactly an approved topic for discussion. So i did the best with what i had. Excuse the eff out of me.

So sorry to hear it. I hope you have been able to have some wonderful memories with her these last few weeks. I went through this in 2017, it's very tough. My thoughts are with you

I still find Eats, Shoots & Leaves by Lynne Truss to be one of my favorite books on punctuation.
