Another step taken towards recovering from my surgery last week. It is slow going maybe cuz I'm older, maybe cuz of the complications, I dunno. But I'm feeling the least amount of pain yet and I haven't taken any pain meds yet this morning.
Hugs and headnods as appropriate. |

L told me to try the DBT skill "broken record" with my sister. She told me to pick a truthful phrase that's simple enough that my sister can't take it too much apart. So I chose "I have to take care of myself today, but I do love you." I know she's still going to lash out on me. She's probably not going to believe it, tell me that I don't care about her and her kids because I didn't go to court, and then tell me to **** off. But being silent isn't going to help the situation either. I'm going to try this skill and see if it works. Might take awhile or just annoy her. I really do love my sister, she just has a nasty side to her.

One thing I learnt (from R who else?) is that I don't have to nice. Just because their family does not give them an excuse to still be abusive/disrespectful. If she's still texting, you are "allowed" to not respond and ignore her. It might seem harsh but I have cut certain family members out and I refuse to be in the same room as them- I don't care how I come across my duty is my own heart.

I'm sitting at my desk and just watched a giant cloud of pine pollen float by. I thought it was smoke at first. Hope no one's allergic.

((((Artie))))
I hear you. I had an assessment on Tuesday for disability benefits (which I am already receiving, but they are changing) and I have to wait a month. Very much not fun.

General question: at what level of procrastination and avoidance of doing things that one should do still falls within the "normal" human experience? I'm talking about doing something like 10-15 mins of physical therapy exercises that I just can't seem to get myself to do regularly. This would be similar to eating appropriate amounts of vegetables, getting physical activity, cleaning ones house, paying bills... doing work while at work...?

I'm not a good person to answer because I'm a horrible procrastinator. I think for me, some of it comes down to issues with executive functioning--T agreed with this, when I shared the extent of my issues with these sorts of things. It can definitely be a part of ADHD (I'm not diagnosed with that, but often wonder) or possibly anxiety or depression (I do have those). For example, I have good intentions for things like cleaning the house, just can't get around to doing it. And H takes care of many of the bills. I had issues with it (I still have a couple of my own credit cards, as does he) until I started autopay. |

My sense of procrastination is that it’s pretty normal for things that have no obvious immediate reward or enjoyment. The only thing that helps me is making it a habit or a challenge.

Why is it that on the days I have to pick up D it starts pouring rain 10 minutes before I have to pick her up? Sigh...at least it's not a thunderstorm this time. And I got gas after T.
Hee hee, on a totally random note that "gas" made me think of, I totally thought T farted today, then he shifted in his seat again, there was another noise, and I realized it was the chair. I think? Maybe? I gave him the benefit of the doubt. (Didn't smell anything.) ETA: But then...I'm there twice a week and the chair doesn't usually make those sounds when he shifts on it... The weather is stupid here. It's probably around 75 or so degrees outside. The A/C is on in the office. But it's so cold (I'm wearing a long sleeved sweater and a corduroy jacket) that I have my space heater on to counter-act the A/C. And I'm getting a headache. I don't want to be at work any more today. /whine over

I am a procrastinator. For me, with something like exercises, it has to somehow be worth it to me to do them or otherwise I will blow them off. Also, I try to see how much of something is really needed -so if they say do this X times - I will try it X times, but then try to reduce it to see if they were just over-stating the benefit or because they think everyone really only does 1/2 of what they say - I don't want to be the goobery over achiever

There is pollen all over my car too. UGH.
I need to go get it washed but I’ve been putting it off. Procrastination on stuff without immediate payoff seems pretty normal to me.
