That’s really funny.

But, when there was a lunar calendar Saturnalia could fall in solar June.

Quiet evening at home for me! My mom's back home (since Tuesday) and h is on his way to Texas on a job. I'm crocheting a pair of slippers for my someday-brother-in-law, the first one is done, just starting the 2nd one now. Might finish it tonight if it goes as fast as the first one did. He's been pestering for a new pair haha he done wore out the first pair I made him. I went to the pool earlier and swam 4 full laps this time, it felt pretty darn good so tomorrow I'll try 6.

Does that bother you? Do you not think it’s right? Or were you trying to communicate something else in the poem?

No, it doesn't bother me - I mean she is right. I guess I was just a little surprised how well she picked up on it! Artie is more transparent than she thought. But, the other 2 who sent me reviews didn't mention it at all. And it wasn't the "I am from" poem I was mistaken. It was the 2nd prompt which had to do with our writing process.

From workshop experience different readers will pick up on different things. The more things they pick up on (according to my current workshop leader) the better the work.

Good to know, thanks. This is my first time doing a poetry class like this, one that includes small-group workshops. (Previous college classes that I took many years ago didn't include this kind of thing.)

Do you mean Tullia, the beloved daughter of Marcus Tullius Cicero?

Or do you mean Tullus Hostilius, legendary third king of Rome?

(But you did get the plural right. )

Hey art--you have Amazon Prime, right? They give a free preview Kindle book every month to Prime members and I thought this one might interest you: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07H7J16QC/ref=kf_lp_dk_eb_5

Speaking of writing workshops, it would require a drive for you, but this place has a lot of Saturday classes, including poetry: Home | Virginia G. Piper Center for Creative Writing
Thanks for this!

Oh, Hostilius kinda explains my uncle Tullio...

Eta - there was a guy in my high school with a last name from the list of roman names. Id like to see watsisname trace HIS family tree!

I like the workshop process for poems. Some of the collective wisdom, like "no discovery in the writer, no discovery in the reader" push for topic risk and for poems to talk about things polite society wants to ignore . Other issues of craft, like where/ why to break lines and how to hone concrete detail into emblematic detail is satisfyingly hands on, like sanding the grain of nice wood. When I teach writing, I ask the participants to use specifics- one thing that worked and why from inside the piece as a starting point.

I thought about it, but s’mores for one sounded kinda depressing. I went with instant mac and cheese and some walnut fudge I bought at a cute little candy store

I fly out tomorrow morning to Tampa to score AP essays next week. Packing for two climates has been an adventure: outdoor in the 90's; indoor apparently sub-zero. LOL! Lots of layers.

The Tampa Convention Center is literally right around the corner from where I have season tickets to NHL games. You will be in my part of the world now
The humidity is miserable so if you dont need to be outside for too long Id suggest staying in the AC! Believe me the cold will feel like heaven after the 90s! Enjoy the Sunshine State-or as a lot of us call it-hell!

I am girding my loins to go attempt to make toum. I have failed at it every time I have tried - I cannot get it to emulsify. I watch videos, read recipes, read about techniques etc and so far this one sauce has eluded me. I can make mayonnaise but toum - the delicious creamy white garlicky gift of the gods, turns into just a separated mess of olive oil, lemon and garlic (tasty enough in its own way with other uses) for me. But I perservere.

When I lived in fl. the weather didn't bother me - it didn't seem any different to me than any other place in the south. I feel at home in humidity. It relaxes me somehow. But the cat-sized bugs were annoying.

It’s all fun and games until someone messes up their toum.

I’m trying my great-grandmother’s bread recipe again. If it fails...there’s always bread pudding.

I got a new flavor of tuna - curry and turmeric. That'll fire up your squirrel suit! I almost fell out of bed last night...

Eta - fortunately, i just read in the local paper that they are bringing goats to a nearby park to help trim the overgrowth. So i have cover...
