I wish for once the academic year would start without some brouhaha.

This year it's that the chair scheduled the department retreat for the first day of classes and just this morning told us we should cancel our classes or send a TA if we have one so we can come to the retreat. She wants us to cancel the FIRST day of classes? Ridiculous. The tone that would set for the whole semester...grrr.

The associate chair, generally a very reasonable guy, just backed her up. Neither of these people do any actual teaching (administrator course releases).

Hugs, Scarlet. You shouldn't have to listen to him yell for 15 minutes. And you shouldn't be expected to be available every possible minute he needs you.

I think that would be a really good idea. Is there family you could stay with? A friend? A woman's refuge?

I asked my mom, she said no because that's the first place he'd look. She suggested I just find a motel to stay at for like a week. It would give me a break, and maybe H and my dad will realize how much I do do for them.

Art, there's a salon treatment (though I guess you can buy it on Amazon) called SOS by TIGI that is amazing. Like beyond belief in completely transforming hair. Mine was damaged, and is thinning, but is naturally fine and curly (read frizz at the drop of a hat). It became silky and super shiny and with body without losing curl. My stylist said your hair will only absorb as much as it needs, so even though it has keratin as an ingredient, there's no worry about how often to use it. That said, a treatment lasts @ 8 weeks. I'd highly recommend!

I don't take a statin, but it's standard advice to take CoQ10 if you do because statins (incl red rice yeast) deplete CoQ10. I take it everyday because I believe it's cardio-protective and also very good for healthy gums (you can even puncture a soft gel and use it topically on gums if you have issues.) I don't take anything else except biotin and Wakunaga Green.

If you really want to disappear, take out a lot of cash before you go, and don't use your credit card. (Saw that on The Rockford Files.) Don't tell anywhere where you are going. Take the battery out of your cell phone.

I think a little of both. My sister just showed me her divorce and custody agreement too, which just made me feel a little more sick.

Frankly, I feel this omnipresent sadness just hanging over me and I really don't know why. How am I supposed to talk about that?

Maybe that's why therapy can be helpful. They're trained to ask the right questions. But that's assuming the therapist actually knows what they're doing. Most, if not all, don't.

Why would they come after you? You're an adult, free to use cash and stop using credit cards, and free to get a new phone and turn the old one off. If there's no sign of foul play or a crime (or your husband doesn't decide to report you as suicidal), you can just disappear.

ETA: I'm not even sure the police would act on a Missing Persons report for an adult without a sign of a crime or suicidal plans.

Overall, it's a good thing, though, right? Yeah, it's painful for her and for you and probably the child too as they grow up and daddy fails them like he failed your sister.
