I’m watching Grease and waiting for H to get done eating so we can go run an errand. I walked a ton yesterday. 4 miles total with the dog and I also went to the Outlets then to a mall. So I don’t feel terrible I only walked him a mile today. He will go for another mile walk after I get back from the store.

In other advent calendar news, for all the cat people here, Trader Joe's is bringing out a cat advent calendar filled with yummy treats for your kitties. They apparently previously had a dog one.

My mom just called, I tried to be my usual cheerful self but she could hear in my voice that I'm not and asked what was wrong. I couldn't tell her cuz it's so ridiculous. Oh well. Time to go to the haunted house thing. I may have to get a margarita over there.

Managed to do 3 of the 5 things I wanted to do today. Going to try to do the other 2 things tomorrow after T. I feel like crap after the pumpkin patch. An hour in the sun and it's sucked any energy out of me that I had.

You ageists, she’s only my mom’s age (75).

Speaking of whom, my mom has an irritated nerve in her back and is having physical therapy for the first time ever. Being my mom, she keeps complaining the at-home exercises are “too easy.” And she uses the stretching times to massage her cat to up the difficulty.

I'm considering a T break. Even saying that scares me. I just want to see how I do without it.

I have just listened to a speech the Danish Crown Prince's wife gave at his 50th birthday gala. It is one of the sweetest speeches I have ever heard. It is on youtube.

Is there anyone here into scifi who can explain the appeal of the genre?

Scifi in the sense of shooting lasers and interstellar wars and lots of time spent on technology. I do read some scifi but it’s more like literary scifi (think Gene Wolfe).

I’m trying to read the submission for tomorrow night’s workshop. It’s scifi. I’m not criticizing those who like it, I just don’t see the appeal and it makes it hard for me to make useful comments on scifi drafts. I like the writer and would like to be helpful to her.

Eta: for instance, how do I treat a sex scene between two demons?

I suppose it depends on how well-written the sex scene is.

I used to looooove scifi. Of course i prefer mine slightly tongue in cheek, or very sad.

Some of my favorite short stories are:

Eyes do more than see - i think by isaac asimov

All summer in a day - ray bradbury

Robert sheckley? I think was also quite amusing. I vaguely remember something about a vacuum cleaner, but it was the best thing i ever read.

Eta - just googled it - called, "can you feel anything when i do this?" written in 1969.
Thanks for this!
