I certainly hope that was fireworks outside. Yikes. I am so afraid all the time now. Of the wildfires currently burning all around my city, of covid, of the civil unrest... now that loud noise that better have been fireworks or I'm moving to Mars.

Not sure how you get by without refrigeration. Is everything you eat canned or shelf-stable or do you shop daily for stuff that would normally be refrigerated or frozen? I may not have a working oven, but I do have a microwave and a stovetop if I choose to use it. What's keeping you from getting a working fridge?

as much as gardening helps my depression i had a few weeks where all i could do was water it and now the maintenance has piled up with the lawn needing mowing and weeds needing weeding i just got lazy and poisoned a whole lot of weeds so that should keep things under control for a month.

My ex has certainly changed his tune in regards to our daughter, he basically said that she is old enough to make her own decisions and we agreed that my daughter and i would see the guidance counsellor and see where my daughter is up to and if she cant possibly make the the 20 points needed to pass she might as well leave and go to night school next year this apparently is what is happening with her other close friends who have left. He always heavily pushed for her to keep going maybe he has realised her stae of mental health

Realistically, I think our productivity is fine but one never really knows. I know our productivity numbers but I have nothing to compare them to. And so I'm still left feeling very anxious about losing my job.

Fingers crossed for you, that's a horrible way to treat staff. Do you guys have a union or a HR department?

I've never heard of monster cookies, but love snickerdoodles! My mom always makes them for Christmas (plus usually some other cookies). I have fond memories of rolling the dough balls in cinnamon/sugar as a kid, then putting them on a tray. Also peanut butter cookies, where you'd criss-cross the dough with a fork to flatten it out (my dad usually made those).

We don't have a union, no. HR works for the administration so they'd be no help at all. The Faculty Senate may call on the Board to rescind the action, but they're very unlikely to do so. Proverbial rock and hard place. I'm optimistic but the gloom still lingers is all. Thanks for the crossed fingers!

My mom always made snickerdoodles, too, but unfortunately she had a tendency to overbake cookies. They're nice when they're soft pillows of cinnamon goodness.

Yes to shelf stable. A bag of oranges or apples will last outside a week. I get fresh groceries Shipt twice a month or so.

Hoarding? keeps me from getting a working fridge. I need to clear the path from the door to the kitchen. Its about 18 inches wide, needs to be 3 feet wide. Its a Sisyphean task.

Ikea do smaller fridges. The first one is 42L!

"A small fridge for a small-sized kitchen. Also handy in the den, basement, guest house, dorm room or wherever you may want quick access to a beverage or snack."

TILLREDA white, Fridge A+ - IKEA

Built-In Fridges - Free-Standing Fridges - Freezers - Fridge Freezers - IKEA

I don't have a full one either in my studio. You can still get quite a bit in.

Wonder if they would say the same thing if the media started reporting it. My aunt was a whistleblower at the hospital she worked at. She posted a letter to the guy above her manager . They did take action.

I hope it goes well.
We still don't have any word about what they are doing about faculty salaries for the fall.

About to start another stretch of nights. Oof.

Just as well--I've been feeling really bummed out ever since session on Friday. I feel like T wasn't being forthright with me, maybe even like he was gaslighting me a little. And I don't feel like I can talk with him about it because I don't want him to do it even more. So it'll be good to be at work and be distracted.

Only trouble is that the new interns start soon, so it's going to be absolute chaos--new interns are fun and excited but don't know how to do *anything* so it's a lot more work for the resident.

I'm running a slight fever and feeling like crud - so what does husband do - starts screaming at me and swearing at me because I forgot to close one window when I turned on the air conditioner. I never cry but I broke out in all out sobbing. He still hasn't apologized. If I felt well enough to drive I'd go to a relative's house but I'm lightheaded, sweaty and feel terrible.

If I could afford to - and find someplace I could bring 3 cats with me - I'd leave him in a second.

What exactly is the point of low fat peanut butter? Would it even taste the same? I saw it briefly in our supermarkets for a couple of years and then it disappeared

A couple weeks ago when the Bureau of Labor Statistics announced the US added jobs in May despite ten straight weeks of losses, I had to pull out my economics textbooks from last summer to see how that could be.

The concepts do seem crazy sometimes--that's why I thought macroeconomics at least was fun.

ETA: My sociology course is nowhere near as interesting or challenging as economics. I am writing a 3-page reflection paper on a TED talk, and it's just a pro forma exercise and therefore boring.

I never liked snickerdoodles - I also never had one that included peanut butter. I like regular peanut butter cookies. I am also not big on chocolate chip cookies that have too much chocolate or other things mixed into them.
I like a larger cookie to chocolate chip ratio than some people and I do not want m&ms, or oatmeal, or raisins, or anything else mucking them up although some chopped walnuts or pecans are acceptable.
I am a tollhouse cookie purist.
