Just finished the slippers for one of my friends back in MO. I enjoy this pattern a lot! Next up, a pair for my sis-in-law.

It has been rainiing here all day so the cats have amused themselves by sittikng in the middle of the loungeroom and smacking each other on the head. I felt i should have stopped it but it made a satisfyingly comical thud noise i could almost see the cartoon bubble with thunk and thud written on it

Watched an abridged version of Handel's Messiah with my dad over the internet last night after work. It was really nice--we were on different coasts watching on our laptops, but we were texting about the music and laughing about the singer's pocket squares and that sort of thing. Nice that one Christmas tradition was able to be preserved despite the 2020ness of it all.

Oh, and the hospital served us free lunch yesterday. It wasn't half bad!

Our heat stopped working overnight...repair guy's at the house right now (as D is freaking out and yelling because she has to stay out of the basement while he investigates). I'm hoping it's just a simple repair and we don't need a new heater...

Heating update: It turned out to be a dirty (something) valve plus a loose wire, which he was thankfully able to fix. I was so relieved when I heard the heat kick on...

thank you! I can't knit - I mean at ALL. I tried to learn, but the yarn just kept falling off the needles! i need the hook in the crochet hook to help me keep the yarn under control haha. My grandma taught me to crochet when I was a kid. She is the only person who had enough patience in order to teach me. And she even taught me to rip out my work if I find a mistake, no matter how far back - I used to cry and get mad at her when she'd make me rip stuff out but I'm glad she did.

Another thing I wish I could do but can't is sew - like, clothes. My sister on the other hand could be a professional tailor - she makes tailored pants for her twin sister, and she has also designed/made stoles for my brother (the minister) to wear over his preacher robe. The stoles are just beautiful creations - one of them is designed like a stained glass window. I have zero patience, skill, or creative talent when it comes to sewing! It's like all of my 'making things' talent went for crochet and that's it!

My grandmother had a lot of ability to sew, knit, crochet, crewel etc. My brother learned but I was never interested.

The second one I hired is also a fabric artist and that is where her real interest lies.

My mom used to sew before her eyes started getting bad, she can't see the little stuff very well so doesn't sew anymore.... I guess that's where my sister got her talent. I sure didn't inherit it! She used to make a lot of our clothes when we were kids. And then my grandma crocheted us all hats, mittens, scarves, and ponchos. I don't have any of those items that she'd made, I wish I did. Although I do have 3 of the afghans that she made many many years ago before she passed and I treasure them.

My mother taught us to sew, but I never did once I left home. My sister did quite a bit though.

Mom taught me some basic crochet, but I didn't get serious about it until a few years ago. This is my latest that I made for my sister - may have to do one for myself - I love this pattern. Must have ripped it out 3 or 4 times before I got the stitch right, but very easy once I did.

I'm convinced knitting requires a higher IQ. LOL! My niece just taught herself to knit and has done some beautiful work (but she is much smarter than I am.)

My phone is smokin' something funny. haha I got like 9 texts all at the same time today and one of them was from L, saying "see you at 4." Um, I haven't seen her since 12/9 because she's out of town on vacation so it was sent on 12/9 and it just came through to my phone today. I think it's time for a new phone.

haha yeah, Penelope does think every time I'm crocheting, that I'm really moving the yarn around just so she can attack it. Then she gives me a look when I tell her "no!"

Working tonight, which means I have to sleep during the day today. I was too exhausted to stay up last night so I'll just have to medicate the bejesus out of my brain and try to force myself to sleep today anyway.

Also... I know y'all are going to think I'm stupid and pathetic... but I decided to give geneticist guy another chance. He apologized his butt off, explained what happened from his perspective. I'm, like... 30% reassured? And T thought I should give him another shot too. I dunno, I might end up just dumping his behind in a few weeks if he turns out to in fact be a jerk. I just like him so freaking much

I've had this story that's been finished and ready to send out for a year now. Getting it out was a 2020 New Year's resolution. Was going to do it over spring break, but then the pandemic hit. I've now revised it and made a list of ten journals, but now I can't make myself take the last step.

It's not really fear of rejection. I just don't feel like making the effort. I'm having a day where I just want to lay in bed (I never actually do this, of course).

ETA: okay, went through three names on my list and submitted two. The third required a submission fee (which I refuse to do) and had a word limit just below my story's word count. So I'll have to find a replacement.
