The appointment went well:
The psychologist talked with me and my mom first generally and whatever, then she had my mom talk about what's been going on with me, then she wanted me to talk, and I said my mom had to leave the room...So it was just me and her for the rest of the time. We talked about the situation, and things that make me irked and irritated, and how I feel like I'm a fake and a person and whatever. I took this depression test thing...And as I was well aware of, I'm depressed (I'm in the 81st percentile for girls my age -- so I'm more depressed than 81% of girls my age...joy). That was basically it...I mean, I left out a lot of detail, but I don't remember. Anyway, she was nice, and pretty easy to talk to (I mean, as easy as it can be in that situation). I have another appointment next Friday, and we'll finish the evaluation and such then. Overall, it was good. It left me a little emotionally drained (that's not even right, but whatever)...But, that's OK. |

Nice to get a confirmation of what's wrong and an idea of how it is going to go to start working on it.

Does your mom understand that she's going to be out of the room when you start seeing him regularly?

Yes, my mom understands that. It was actually the psychologist herself who had both of us in the room at the same time, I guess for evaluation...But when I said my mom had to leave, she honored that...So, it's all good.

Good job, sing. You are fortunate your mother is so understanding.
It gets easier. And don't worry about getting everything out at your first appointment. Take it at your pace, be honest. You'll continue to get more out at each session. Good luck to you.

So I had my second session today...
The therapist talked with my dad and I for most of the time. And, we may have something else to add to the diagnosis. OCD. It's not official yet, we didn't have time to do the screening, so I'm doing it next time...But yeah. My therapist thinks I might have it. |

Sounds like an infectious disease. I don't think it is... ![]()

Lol.
There are a number of people who say that they have OCD but really don't...But with the number who say they do, you would think it could be passed from person to person. |

Quote:
No specific genes for OCD have yet been identified, but research suggests that genes do play a role in the development of the disorder in some cases. Childhood-onset OCD tends to run in families (sometimes in association with tic disorders). When a parent has OCD, there is a slightly increased risk that a child will develop OCD, although the risk is still low. When OCD runs in families, it is the general nature of OCD that seems to be inherited, not specific symptoms. Thus a child may have checking rituals, while his mother washes compulsively.

From: http://www.pennbehavioralhealth.org/...xiety/ocd.html

I'm adopted and I don't know a lot of family history...I know though that we have very little (if any) information about the mental health of my biological parents...
