Feeling better now, though not completely 100%.

Went on a hike with my BF and my BFF and her fiancé yesterday, which was super fun. BF had to go to work for a few hours afterwards because he's at a critical point in one of his experiments (basically, he's been trying to purify this protein for the last four months and it's finally starting to work), which sucked. And he has to go back today for a few hours too.

He says he feels bad that I've been doing all of the cooking lately (though honestly that arrangement seems totally reasonable for now since he's working and I'm not at the moment because I have this awkward month between scheduled shifts) so now he's vacuuming and Swiffering the bejesus out of the apartment and won't let me help

In other crazy news, I've gone completely insane and have become obsessed with the pregnancy subreddits on Reddit. I know it's totally premature (the BF and I have only been dating for like 5-6mo); I think the thing is that he knows he wants kids and I'm sort of on the fence (I feel like I could be happy either way) and I feel like I need to be sure I want kids if I'm gonna let this thing go any further.

Couch mini-poll: how many tuna sandwiches does one can of tuna make?

This became a hot topic on my date last night. I say two. Date says “barely one.”

We ended up at a supermarket looking at cans of tuna. Some say 1 can is a serving, point to date. Some say a can has 2 servings, point to me. Some say 2.5 servings, which is ridiculous, who eats a half-serving? Round down, point to me.

Finally, something im an expert at!

A tuna sandwich from Zingerman's ie a deli sammich is probably two 5 oz cans at least. Or like a tuna melt.

A weight watchers sandwich on "skinny" bread would have chosen the smaller 3 oz can to begin with, or the 3 oz bags they make now, that are one "diet" serving.

A regular human sandwich on regular bread, 5 oz can, on toast, cut in half!

Did i get it right?

Mmm, Zingerman's. I liked that place. I think I still have their cookbook somewhere.

So you're saying for regular humans, 1 can = 1 sandwich, while for weight-conscious humans, 1 can = 2 sandwiches (more or less), and for Zingerman's customers, 2 cans = 1 sandwich.

Now what if I throw in a variable? Gluten free bread slices are smaller than normal bread slices. I don't think it'd be possible to fit a whole can of tuna on there.

One can = one sandwich here in the UK.

Accompaniments vary - I'm a red onion fan.

I think the driver is the size of the bread the eater chooses, for whatever reason.

4 sandwiches at least out of a 5 oz can - with eggs, mayonnaise, celery, and chopped up pickles. I don't like too much tuna salad on the bread - like only about 1/4 cup spread onto the bread
OR did you just mean plain tuna on the bread?

Tuna with mayo, on two slices of bread.

I don’t like soft + crisp texture together in food.

It is how my mom made it. I like it -but it is probably why it makes 4 sandwiches. i was grown before I realized that not everyone puts egg in theirs

1 can of tuna = 2 sandwiches for me or 1 sandwich for the young men living in my house. Actually, their formula is 2 cans = 2 sandwiches = enough for lunch.

I like homemade relish and a little mayo in mine. Celery if I feel like making the effort to chop it, ditto with a shallot if I have one because it's tiny enough to use up the whole thing.

I don't usually -but for tuna salad sandwiches I have always had celery and pickle. My dad likes lots of pickle - and the pickle and celery are chopped really fine so it isn't like a hunk of celery.

Hmmm, so it’s a male/female thing too?

Also I neglected the cat factor. Share or not?

I'm not sure what would happen if I didn't share with the cats. They all three materialize from thin air and stare.

I'm a little frightened not to.

I don't know what kind of amateur hour I have stumbled into here, but tinned tuna should be mixed with mayonnaise and sweetcorn and added to baked potatoes. A sandwich?! I am embarrassed for you all. What next? Macaroni cheese without the macaroni? Pinot Grigio without the Grigio?

I have applesauce-oatmeal bread in the oven right now, and it smells divine.
Now I am considering tuna sandwiches on fresh bread for dinner. I'd planned vegetable-beef soup, since all three boys got their second round of the Pfizer vaccine today and might need something hydrating and simple. But they might like the comfort foodishness of tuna sandwiches.

P.S. Distracted by what folks put in their tuna sandwiches, it just now occurred to me to ponder whether ending up at the grocery looking at cans of tuna is a sign of a really good or a really bad date?

Now my stomach hurts and I can't figure out if it's the KFC we ate last night or if it's psychosomatic. Either way I feel guilty AF because just like two weeks ago BF had to deal with me after I got my IUD replaced and I was having awful cramps -- he's not my caretaker ffs; I can't be getting sick all the damn time. (I might be sensitive to this bc a college BF listed "you get sick too often" as a reason not to date me anymore... also bc I tend to seek caretaking through being ill... also bc my mom does the same thing...)

(Also, I love y'all but I find both tuna and mayo so revolting that I literally cannot read the other posts on the Couch right now )

I've had a stomach ache all day today too but mine is cuz I was so anxious about talking to my mom again today on our family zoom call after what she said last week. It went ok though, she didn't say a word about it so that was good.

My mom never made us sandwiches. She "encouraged our self-sufficiency".

I recently put tuna on a tater and it was awsome.
