Just curious.

nah, he warms it up in the microwave. he doesn't like crunchy bacon so it works. and he'd rather have leftover bacon, than no bacon. (nobody uses my instant pot/air fryer but me haha)

Oh, that shows the extent to which my brain is not working.

Could you just go to the grocery store? Even if for some reason you didn't want to go inside, a lot of stores around here let you order and then pick them up without going into the store

True, we could do that, too, but then need to figure out what to make. And we already did two grocery orders (different stores) over the weekend (one curbside, one delivery), so was trying to avoid another grocery trip.

Esther's vet appointment went well. It was only $85 and that included the food and the syringes we needed. Thank goodness it wasn't expensive....Because I kind of sponsored another child through Compassion. I know! I just sponsored one a few days ago. (I have three total!) They sent me this email with this sad little boy on it and I deleted it. Then I went home and they sent me a picture of the same sad little boy through the mail. I thought geez, Okay God, I guess you want me to sponsor him. But from now on, no matter how sad the children look, I have to not sponsor them at least until this time next year otherwise I will have no money to live on.

I'm glad Esther's appt went well, Kit. I need to get my Rascal in for a checkup, and to get a new vial of insulin and more needles too. I think you are a beautiful and giving soul for sponsoring those children.

I know, right? But this pool is my reason for living this week. It is just so freaking amazing. Just imagining myself in it. Completely safe - except if, what if...???!!! It's my new Mt Everest, only one i could theoretically actually do.

Artley, that whole insurance/billing deal is horrifying. Doubly so when you have to deal with it in the midst of trying to focus your energies on trying to care for your husband.

I adore una in the most platonic way. No way do I want to get caught in the love triangle or rectangle or octagon or whatever shape it is you all have got going on by now.

Btw @@, i would not include that part about "(creating) chlorine gas in (your) bathroom" on your online dating profile.

Eta - how can you not love someone who hands you a straight line like this?!

Hugs to all who want. Couch 227 - The Safe Couch

I'm scared for a friend who just got kicked out. Their severely abusive father always pulls this thing as a power move. Then takes them back because he needs their disability money (joint bank account) because he's mismanaging finances.

However this time it's different in 2 very important ways: They were away from home when cut off, so they got a temporary place to stay. Secondly, their father made the mistake of removing his part of the joint account under their name, so my friend changed the login and is now sole owner of the account. Father didn't take out ALL the money from it beforehand too.

Currently, my concern is they don't have their legal documents.

I'm unfamiliar with USA stuff, so I would appreciate any advice or places I can find out more.

QM, with your friend, were they born in the United States and are concerned about things like a birth certificate? If so, you can generally order one from your state's health department--I had to get an official copy when I got married (the one my parents had didn't have some seal that was needed), and I was able to do that pretty easily. You may have the contact the health department in the state where you were born, I'm not sure (I live in the state where I was born, so no issue for me). But they can send it by mail.

If the friend was born in another country and now lives in the United States, then I'm not sure how they'd get copies of documents (I assume you'd mean things like a visa or other paperwork showing they're here legally). But there must be some way to get them. I hope your friend will be OK!

Thanks! Will relay that. I hope they'll be OK too, and I really hope they get a long streak of solid good luck so they'll never return to that house and get abused again.

Like LT said, they can get birth certificate, social security card, etc. via government offices. It may take a few hoops (perhaps a lot of hoops) if they don't have any supporting documents, but it can be done. I hope they will stay out of their father's home and keep their finances separate from here on. That can be a sticky situation. Perhaps they can request access to the home to get their belongings (and documents). It would definitely simplify things. I wonder if the police can help them gain safe access for that purpose.

you can relax. your friend being in the USA will know how to call various agencies for help. we have homeless services, we have social services, we have a justice system.

for example you said they got a temporary place to stay... how did they do that.. they called around or walked in to either hotels, motels or homeless services or social services, or called the police who directed them what to do.

given they have a temporary place to stay they understand about how to get money from their bank account to pay for a place to stay.

since they have access to their bank account and know how to pay for a temporary place to stay they also know how to go to mcdonalds, burger king, taco bell and various restaurants to feed their self.

since they are here in the USA they understand about clothes, food and shelter, these basic needs are all over the news, tv commercials, billboards every where you go there are signs and agencies to help americans get their needs and wants met.

as for legal documents that is usually an simple thing of calling or walking in to these agencies like social security, Social services or even online. now days all a person needs to do is visit a library and use their free computers to go on the state website and order their legal documents and librarians can show them how to do it.

my point is your friend will be fine, he/ she found their self a temporary place to stay and that shows so much about their abilities to function and able to care for their self and their needs.

Honey, I meet people the old-fashioned, boring way. Work, running errands, hobbies, community groups. No online profiles here. (I tried Match once years ago and found it creepy.)

It’s true, I don’t have a love pentagram like you. Boring!

"love pentagram" hmm....

in other news, i have a product review of sorts for y'all. I had a coupon for a free Jimmy Dean Simple Scrambles breakfast thing, so I went ahead and got one. Just made it, and it's not bad for when you don't have time to cook for reals. Microwaved eggs do have a weird kind of texture or something to them. They're kinda, bouncy? Rubbery? But it's not too bad if you look past that.
