My last several sessions with T have been rough emotionally on me and him as well. Well, I'm assuming that part but I feel like we need to connect again.

I think I want tonight's session to just be fun and laid back. I'll still address some topics but I hope we can have some fun with it.

He has said that I work hard and don't have to 'work' all the time. I think sometimes I just want to be entertaining and fun but that is part of my personality that isn't going to change.

Anyone ever feel like this about a session?

almedafan, I'm sorry you've had some "rough" times in therapy lately, but those can be the sessions that really move us forward and help us grow and heal. We need to connect again

Sometimes T and I have "lighter" sessions and these can be really helpful, kind of like taking a "breather" between rounds in a boxing match, lol. You can sit back and just enjoy each others company and take pleasure in that, have some good feelings.

My T said to me once very early in therapy that I needn't feel like I have to "perform" for him while I was there. He meant produce meaningful, deep stuff every session. I guess because we had some early, very intense sessions, I was getting the impression I had to produce deep and dark stuff each and every time. It was reassuring to have him tell me I that isn't the way it has to be each time, because I was feeling pressure to "produce", like therapy wasn't useful if I didn't.

So I hope you can go to your session with T, kick back, chew the fat, enjoy your time, have some laughs and some closeness, connect over the light side for a change.

Good luck!

Actually, I had my session a few hours ago and it was GREAT! When I got there I said can we just goof around tonight? the last few sessions have been kind of serious We need to connect again

He laughed and we talked about some issues still but in a lighthearted manner.

I swear sometimes he feels like a big brother to me. Probably because I always wanted one. We definitely connected again We need to connect again

That's wonderful, almeda! My T was Asian and use to look puzzled when things weren't about issues (they could be light or funny but not other subjects) as she said she wasn't good at "small talk" :-)

Maybe there is something in the air. It sounds like we are all having "light week" We need to connect again I had my session today and it was much lighter than usual. I don't always go in feeling like I have to discuss "issues", but things generally get pretty heavy. Today though, was just kind of giggly. My t. even sat in his chair in a more relaxed manner. We did talk about some serious stuff, but somehow also talked about decorating and he even talked about himself a little. This is VERY rare. I loved it!! I hardly ever leave a session without having shed at least one little tear. Today.....my mascara was in place. Nice for a change We need to connect again
