I have just eaten my first cotton candy ever.

And what’s the big deal? I don’t get it.

I heard on tv today - love is like horse riding or speaking french - you have to start young, or you will never be any good at it.

Maybe cotton candy is like that too.

Eta i smell skunk.

It's not really the flavor. I like the way it dissolves on your tongue.

Ah. I did not realize one was supposed to let it dissolve. I will try that next time.

It’s a five-pack of Halloween flavored cotton candy I spotted at Walmart. Pumpkin pie was the flavor I tried last night.

cotton candy is best when you are 5-7 yrs old and it is fresh. I loved it as a kid but as an adult it is way too sweet. But it absolutely has to be fresh and spun right in front of you. I've never tried flavored cotton candy. But as with Oreos I am a purist. As I recall it was either red or pink food dye and just plain sugar. It's more of a texture thing than a flavor thing in my opinion but when I was little it was one of my absolute favorites

I blame my parents for focusing too much on the health of our teeth.

Anyone ever bitten into a banana to find a dark, crunchy center? I did for the first time in my life this morning and am wondering if it’s safe to eat more? My tongue tip is a little numb from that first bite.

Yes we only had opportunity for it to be our treat a couple of times a year. One was at my Dad's homecoming festivities and the other was at our catholic school fair. We didn't have fancy store packaged kind - I don't think they had it back in the old days packaged for stores. It is kind of like rice krispies treats - which I never liked -but they were homemade -not sold in store packages.

I have had bananas with black middles and crunchy bits but I usually cut that part off. I am still alive and don't recall any ill effects (my bar for such is fairly low). A quick search on google revealed that it is probably okay to eat depending on who you ask.
The canadians (after my own heart) are not that worked up about it, but a couple of over-wrought people advise not to.

canadians: Red fungus inside bananas - Canadian Food Inspection Agency

Middle of the road: My banana is black in the middle - is it safe to eat?

Stopdog is exactly right. Half (or more) of the fun of cotton candy is watching it create itself seemingly out of thin air in a huge aluminum barrel.

The packaged stuff is like saying

. Sorry for the disgusting imagery!

Don't they call it fairy floss or something like that in the UK. I like that. It's so whimsical sounding.

We call it fairy floss in Australia and in NZ we also have fairy bread which is just white bread and butter with hundreds and thousands sprinkles on top. Thatsa type of sprinkle not hundreds and thoudands of sprinkles. They are multi coloured balls.

The longish tubular sprinkle always struck me as mean and aggressive. I was a freudian even as a small child!

I was never a huge sprinkle fan due to texture and no real taste other than sweet. Sprinkles mess up the smoothness of icing or ice cream. I have never seen them on just plain bread - interesting idea.

I'm sorry for worrying y'all. It's just, well, the loss of my cousin a couple weeks ago has sent me into a tailspin I can't pull myself out of. Triggering old losses, my fear that my own life is over half gone and I have accomplished nothing, etc. I'm getting help, probably going back on depression meds for a short time anyway (hopefully only a short time, unless there's a newer one that doesn't make me a complete feeling-less zombie) just waiting for the pdoc appointment.

All the hugs, Artie.
Such a brutal loss would definitely have an impact.
I'm glad you're seeking support.

Hugs Artie. Remember that it's okay to not be okay. And it's healthy to feel all your feelings. Grief looks different for everyone. I hope you are gentle and patient with yourself. I hope that the meds will help you too.

An era in Couch history is ending.

Cleaning out my mother’s house this summer after her death got both me and my sister to start clearing out our own places so no one else had to do so much work if a similar occasion arose with one of us.

So I have just placed the owl onesie in a donation bag.

ETA: art—I’ve had to go back on depression meds too. It feels like a failure, but really it is so worth it.

I'm supposed to see my T tonight via Zoom. We were going to try to talk this weekend but she didn't get up until 3 PM or so on Sunday. Then she already had some people scheduled for 5, 6 and 7 PM. She said she could do an 8 PM for me, but I usually go to bed between 7 or 7:30 PM because I need a lot of sleep and I work early (6 AM start time). She said she felt sad that she let me down. So I found myself reassuring her. (Just kind of realized that as I was writing this.) I was dealing with it fine but then I had to deal with her feelings too. Too much. We'll see how today goes.
