Hugs, Velcro. I'm sorry... I agree with Lemon on trying to get put on a cancellation list (especially considering it was your doctor who canceled, not you).

Last night I learned a new crochet stitch, don't know the exact name of it, it's a type of Tunisian crochet done on a long (11-inch) crochet hook, and is kinda like a cross between knitting and crochet. It's fun actually, and I'm gonna try making an actual thing out of it next. I do see that I need to "loosen up" my stitches are so tight it wants to curl up. One thing I like about it is that you 'carry' each color up the sides so you don't have a bunch of ends to weave in. Here's my first attempt/sample swatch:

Navajo Rabbit, I still feel absolutely steamrollered by yesterday's interaction with the woman from the SL support group.

I'm not sure it's meant to work that way.

Hugs, Lost. Agreed that it doesn't seem like she should have been asking that question. I hope you can still find the group helpful!

That's the challenge, LT.
After that interaction, I don't feel comfortable.
I'm intending to have a chat with R about it all this week.

morning couch. I have to call the dentist when they open in about 20 minutes... have a strange thing going on with my two front bottom teeth. they've been feeling rough ever since I got my teeth cleaned awhile back, but last night it started feeling like there's something sharp poking through my gums under both of them. I'm afraid to look; my dental phobia is on high alert this morning watching the clock countdown to 8am when they open. I don't want to know what is going on but I don't really want my teeth to start falling out either...

Thanks for the hugs, Artie.

What you're going through sounds scary...I hope you're able to get through to the dentist and get an appointment.

Seems odd that the issue has only shown up now when you had the cleaning a while ago.

Hope it's nothing too serious.

I'm not sure whether I'm overreacting to the interaction I had yesterday. I just think it's really weird to ask about someone's experience of something extremely sensitive so bluntly.

Thanks Lost and I don't think you're overreacting. It seems more than weird to me, seems very insensitive, especially since wasn't this coming from someone you don't actually know yet? maybe i'm mistaken about that.

This thing with my teeth - they were feeling weird, like, rougher than they used to, but nothing alarming, and the fact that I was working so much overtime for a while, added to my dental phobia, equals I just ignored it and pretended it would magically go away. Wrong thing to do. Oh well I'm calling now...

eta: ok now I'm even nervouser. I described the situation and they're getting me in today at 1pm.

I've only met her once, at the Cathedral event for people affected by suicide.

This was our second conversation overall.

good luck, artie! i also was a bit freaked out when a part of my tooth (back molar) just broke off. Eek! Luckily, it didn’t hurt. They got me in on like 40 minutes. Turns out I needed a crown. I feel ya, I loathe the dentist, though I actually really like my dentist, just not the drills.

I can see why someone would ask the question. But also, just because someone asks doesn't mean you have to answer. I would think a simple "I am not comfortable discussing that" would suffice. I wouldn't give up on something just because of one question that was not to my specific liking. Plus discomfort in and of itself is not the end of the world - sometimes, to me, dealing with the info that makes one uncomfortable is better in the long run.

They might have just left some edges of plaque that then reaccumulumated regrew faster than your cleaned teeth.

I am worried about my Mom. She was hospitalized and then released. Then didn't feel good all last week. Then my Dad took her back to the ER on the advice of her doctor on Saturday, they gave her more potassium because her body tends to not absorb it. She saw her doctor yesterday. She has lost 18 lbs! She is skinny as it is. But she hasn't really been eating much. She's been sleeping a lot. Like 18 hours a day. The doctor ordered a bunch of tests. Like a full body scan. I hope she doesn't have something like cancer. But I am trying to stay in the present moment and not let worry run away with me.

Going to see T tomorrow. Lots to talk about. I kind of wish it was today but I don't feel the best today (physically) so maybe it is best.

Today's prompt on napowrimo.net is writing Triolets. I hadn't played with that form in a while, so am having fun with it, and trying to let it take my mind of going to the dentist in a couple hours. It's not working, so I have now decided to write a humorous triolet to dental phobia.

Triolet sounds like a very bad tasting chewing gum recommended by 4 out of 5 dentists!

Eta - or i was so sleepy, i fell off the triolet!

Back from a most uneventful dentist visit (and stopped by the grocery store too). Dentist said it's calcium buildup that my next cleaning which is already scheduled soon will take care of. I was like well I feel stupid now, over here having visions of my teeth falling out!! He was so kind and said don't feel stupid, I'm glad you checked it out. He has this cool little pen-camera thingy he can take pictures of each individual tooth and then display them enlarged on a screen to show you what is going on. Oh the advancements in dentistry when you don't go very often ha. He explained that after a cleaning, the surface of your teeth can feel a little rough (they did, back in October as I recall) and that calcium gets stuck in the roughness or something. Kinda odd - y'know I went like 7 years not seeing a dentist at all now they did a cleaning about 6 months ago, and it's so bad again I thought my teeth were gonna fall out?! that's wily of 'em.

I'm so relieved for you that everything's OK, Artie.
That pen-camera sounds really nifty, and saves the rigmarole of dental x-rays.
Hope you can have a restful afternoon now.

My dentist also used that pen/camera thingy when she was showing me (up close and in detail) my broken tooth. Honestly, I could have done without.

Kit-I hope your mom is okay, and it is nothing serious.

I see my doctor (who I haven’t actually seen since all my foot pain started-I’ve been seeing a nurse practitioner), and really hope that she can somehow give me hope that we can figure out this pain, and I won’t be completely disabled by it-which is what it feels like right now.
