h watches tik tok all morning until he gets his first job of the day. it annoys the he11 outta me because he doesn't 'get' how they loop or whatever, so he'll watch one over and over and over before he realizes it. annoying.

TicktoK is an app. I don't have it downloaded either and am not a fan. I do believe it DOES affect attention spans, but I do think it should not be banned.

Una aren't you lot supposed to be the land of the free?

The leaked comments from ADL chief executive Jonathan Greenblatt explains why. During the covid era, Facebook et al did admit to secretly censoring information .

There’s been more police visits over what’s been posted online in the UK compared to Russia. We also jailed someone for two years for putting up stickers that said amongst others “we will be a minority in our own country by 2066”.

You guys should read the fourth turning.

In 2024 if companies want to stay afloat they should stay away from being woke ideology and try to stay with public opinion.

The Chinese version is different to the American version. Their version is limited to science videos and locks them out after a set time, so they are spared from all the bad dancing routines at least.

I do believe though even with TikTok by installing the app it would have it in their terms and conditions which nobody reads, you do agree to give them information about your phone usage and access to all your contacts.

Snowden already proved the NSA was intercepting phone calls and Internet communications.

Companies like Palantir who have government contracts and Cambridge Analytica already exist. What’s a bit more analysis? 🧐

Even grocery shops at Tesco can be used to provide insights if you scan your loyalty cards.

Photos uploaded to Instagram and Facebook have been used to create facial recognition databases.

There’s also serious hackers who can gain access to private phone messages.

I miss the good old days (1998) when movies like enemy of the state with Will smith had the conspiracy theorist in the Faraday cage spouting the idea that your phone could be used to track you.

I’m yearning for a simpler life and am still old enough to remember a time when we didn’t have a computer at home with internet.

People have yearned for a simpler life since forever. I am sure AA can give any number of ancients who said such. IF one wants a simpler life - it is possible - one merely must go do it. What one probably can't do is have a simpler life without it causing different challenges and tradeoffs.
There is a book out there (author is dead now but his co-author who may be his widow has a new edition and a podcast)

Memoir class officially starts tomorrow night, but we were able to post an introduction, saying our writing history, what we're working on, and what we hope to get out of the course. I just posted mine and feel sort of anxious... I'll be heading to my parents' condo at the beach tomorrow for a few nights, figuring I can start on the course there (and I desperately need a break and some extended alone time--figured I'd time it for the start of the class). Weather will be rather chilly for most of my stay (aside from tomorrow), but that's OK. Need to actually pack.
Thanks for this!

Thanks, Artie! I also realized that the difference with this class is, well, it's a class, with 21 other students. The other, I was just working directly with an instructor.

How's the poetry going?
Thanks for this!

That will be interesting, will there be interaction between students too?

The poetry is going great, thanks for asking! The challenge private facebook group is still very active 2 months in, it's a great place to workshop our poems, I've gotten some really good constructive feedback. Believe it or not, I've written 98 poems since we started! Most weekend days I write more than one. I've posted at least half of them for workshopping purposes. There's over 600 people in the facebook group, so that's a good-sized audience. Really enjoying it. I hope they run it again next year.

Not sure on the interaction, how that works? There's a Facebook group for anyone who has taken a course from this organization, but that's of course bigger than just the students in here. Hoping to connect to a couple to stay in touch with after the course. Or to connect to others in the group, though it also includes fiction and poetry classes.

Wow, that's a lot of poems! I'm impressed. Glad the group is still so active!
Thanks for this!

Oh yes, nostalgia complex starts as long ago as Homer*, if not before.

Pliny the Elder** had an especially bad case.

* No, ex-hankster, I don’t mean Homer Simpson.

** And no, I don’t mean the ale.

Is this Gotham? I’ve done their fiction courses. Should be discussions and critiques when you workshop.

It's actually through Authors Publish, a resource that Dr. T shared with me a year or two ago. They mostly do listings of publishers and literary journals seeking submissions, but they also run classes and lectures. The one I'm doing is with this writer.

I had looked into Gotham in the past and even signed up for one of their workshops last year, then canceled it and opted to go with the individual instructor from Fish Publishing.

H just left on a job, then he's meeting some friends to go to a spring training baseball game somewhere in the phoenix vicinity, I forget which city the ballpark is in. Glendale maybe? i dunno. so i have a nice quiet workday in progress. On break now, for another minute or two anyway. it's a gorgeous day outside so I have my window open and Penny is laying in her window hammock thingie, doing her little chatter at the birds in the bushes out front. She hangs out with me a lot now that she's the lone cat in the house.
