Does it bother you if T is your age or younger?

Do you think the transferance acts the same?

How old is your T? Younger, Older, same?????

My t. is about the same age as me. I mentioned to him that he would look amazingly like Dr. Drew Pinsky if he wore glasses. He laughed and said he hears that about once a week. I think he's very handsome in a "doctor" sort of way. Serious, with caring expressive eyes that say everything How old is your T? Younger, Older, same?????

I'm only in my early 20s, so all my T's are older than me right now. How old is your T? Younger, Older, same????? She's probably in her early-mid 30s though.

I'm 26 and my T is in his mid 50s and looks good to me so that only fuels the transference because I've always had an intellectual, older man thing.

My first T when I got one here in Arkansas was older then the next one was about the same age and I found myself with a huge crush on him...the one I worked with the longest and had most recently til he died was about the same age about 6 years older than me and the one I have now is about my mom's age and we get along well. I like Dr. McCain and respect her a lot.

My T and I are both about the same age. We are both middle-aged, married and originally came from the same neighborhood in a large city. And the transference is a major problem here too!

The first social worker I got close to was when I was 16, she was about 10 years older. It worked well.
I am now 22 and my T is in her mid-50's. We work really, really well together. How old is your T? Younger, Older, same?????

I'm 48 and my T is 41. Our ages are great, no problem. We get along great. I look to him as a father since mine was abusive. I don't feel my age anyways. People can't believe it if I tell them my age. I'm emotionally immature. I'm still growing up.

I don't think I could work with a young T. My T is my age, about, I think. I'm not good at guessing ages but she seems to be my age or a little older.

I think the transference works the same.

What do you think?

Yummmm.... I think I'd never be able to concentrate on what I was saying if my therapist looked like Dr. Drew. He's my physical ideal. How old is your T? Younger, Older, same?????

My therapist is five years older. As I'm getting older more and more of my doctors are younger than I am, but I'm pretty sure I like my therapist to be older. Or at least seem older.

My Psychiatrist is probably in her mid to late 50'"s and I see her once a week for at least an hour, usually longer. We talk on the phone too. She gave me her pager # and cellphone# for emergency, nights and weekends.
My Therapist who I also see once a week in probably 12 yrs younger than me but we have built a very good repore and I've been seeing him since my first hospitalization last fall.
My 2nd therapist is about 15 yrs older than me. She treats me like a daughter. And best of all.........no charge!! lol

Been a long time since I've logged on here and posted I think. I've had 12 ECT treatments and my memory isn't so great about things that I've done. But I have lots of scars on my forearms and stomach that required stitches so I will having lasting reminders for a long time to come.. I've spent several months in and out of Psych hospitals and with the overdoses, they can't be sure it is what has caused my latest heart problems but I have to have heart surgery in another week. I spent 8 days including Christmas day in the hospital up here.

Sorry, I'm just dragging on and on and saying nothing interesting as usual.

I like those older than I am, not because of any transference issues but for life experience. They've practiced longer and lived longer. I know a great deal just having lived to 57 so I don't want to be dealing with someone 37; been there, done that and know they can't understand the thoughts and feelings I'm having now about getting older because they haven't gotten there yet. Even if they have treated people older than themselves, I don't think they will have treated enough to convince me they can make up for their own lack of personal experience. They'd have to be a very special person, working primarily in geriatrics to maybe work for me but I probably wouldn't give them the chance.

If I can tell someone is younger than I am, they'd be too young; if I'm unsure, I might be okay with them. But too, it would depend on my issues at the time. Right now it's with getting older so I want an older therapist dealing with some of the same issues.

That's so funny. The 1st time I saw hime, I was sort of speechless and it took me months to tell him this. He just shrugged when he told me how often he hears it. He said one patient even brought in a pair of "Dr. Drew glasses" and asked him to wear them during sessions. He declined How old is your T? Younger, Older, same????? Funny thing, he even grew up in the same part of Ca. as Dr. Drew.
