Apparently I'm just not sick enough.

I will explain what happened later, but I have to leave for therapy now.

Since you have almost everything packed, why not go on a little getaway even it is in the city. Get your nails and hair done, have a massage, eat out at your favorite places, see a movie, etc.

That's such an awesome idea, but unfortunately, one that requires money, lol. I'm pretty low at the moment until I start my new job. I am going to try to do things such as work on my art and writing-- takes walks, read in the city parks and things like that. I like your idea, though-- just do things for me.

You know pink, when you talked about going into hospital I didn't see why, but wasn't going to put a damper on it. I supposed I was missing a big piece of your puzzle.

However, that they didn't take you in, that rather sits better with me. I hope it's a good thing after all?

Hospitals are mainly to: stablize a patient who is suffering a psychotic break; give a patient supervision while they begin a new medicine or a new dose; give the patient and their doctor a period of "safe" time to plan out future therapy schedules and needs.

You didn't seem to fit any of those needs. But I will still give you the benefit of my doubt I was denied admission into the hospital. and hope you will be okay.

Stick around here at PC while you work through those raw emotions of being denied entry. I am sure that is a big disappointment, since you had it as a goal.

I was denied admission into the hospital.

I agree that you should take a few days off for yourself, kind of self-treatment in a way. Maybe just hang out at a park or go camping or something cheap.

And you're not alone...I was also denied treatment at a psych hospital 2 years ago, even though I was suicidal. I guess the fact that I was sane enough to drive myself there and ask for help meant I was too sane to need it.

Um.

I am quite confused. Usually your p-doc arranges for a bed if you are not going in via ER. The bed is held for you for usually 1 day to get there. You go in under p-doc's admission.

Even when my p-doc did NOT have admitting privileges or Floor privileges, they worked with another p-doc that did. And it usually happens fairly quickly, like "Rip, you are %#@&#! up. You need to goto the hospital. The sooner the better." or "Rip, if you don't voluntarily goto the hospital tomorrow, p-doc will start an involuntarily hold."

Been there tons of times. Never heard of this.

Unless this is like the SAFE Program (for cutting) in Chicago, where they evaluate you for their program which is months long. But that is not a regular psych hospital.......

There is often a shortage of psych beds, at least here in Edmonton. Unless you are a danger to yourself or others you're unlikely to be admitted. And even then you may be waiting in the ER for a few days.

I can understand how difficult it must be though. Maybe you can do day hospital. My pdoc is looking at that for me. I'm not suicidal, but I'm barely function. I wish you the best regardless.

At our psych hospital they screen you to see if you meet the requirements...I know a lot of people who fake symptoms just to get in so they tightened up their screening process...

Try to hang in there.

In my state, the absolutely only reason you will get even an overnight stay is if you are considered a danger to self or others. Most of the above are luxuries that don't happen in my area. We have no beds and no insurers who would cover for med changes, etc. It's only for possible life/death situations. And sometimes patients are sent to hospitals which are many hours away since we have so few psych beds available locally. Very sad situation.

Pink - I'm so sorry this wasn't arranged better for you. You were in no state of mind to be forced to handle another stressor!

There is another hospital (of many) in the area.... I spoke with the intake department and they feel as though their doctor could make a case for why I would need to be there.

At this point I think I have decided to forget the whole thing and just move on with my life. I realized, through this experience, and other things that have happened in the past day, that there is no such thing as "taking a break."

I accepted a position as a therapist and I have to call human resources today to let them know when I'm going to start. I'm done. I can't be %#@&#! around the hospital. I need to grow up a bit, maybe.

Off to T....

Yes, the "psychotic break" term does indicate a severe emergency and safety issue. There are a shortage of beds all over the world I think. And yes, they do need to screen closely as some homeless people would use the system to get off the street and get some care (and who can blame them?) Many do need mental health care, but without insurance I guess the hospitals have to limit the number of patients without insurance that they can take in. I was denied admission into the hospital. Doesn't sound right, does it?

((((Pink))) I hope you are doing better now, and over the urgency to have someone help take care of you and keep you safe. I'm glad you were able to do that on your "own"...and hope you continue to post how we here at PC can continue to help you.

I was denied admission into the hospital.

Actually, not all hospitals are for clients who are having "psychotic breaks or episodes." There are some that specialize in particular areas, for particular groups of people.

Just b/c someone needs hospitalization doesn't mean they're psychotic.

Wow Pink.

Really shocking story. I wondered how you were doing. I'd second the notion that the others have that you should just take some time to yourself for a bit, especially before a new job. And book some extra sessions with T!

I had no idea you could be denied admission. I hope you are getting by okay and getting support from your hubby as well as us here. Take some time to chill. When are you thinking of starting your new job?
