Just wanted to share...

Just wanted to share with you all in the hope that it will help others.

I had the worst childhood, treated disgustingly and lead into things that no child should ever have to go through. Because of what I went through and the fact that I was told that I am *Nothing* that's what I believed and was. Still am nothing on a bad day.

But the point of my post is this >>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Amazing things can happen, dreams can come true. Someone who was *Nothing* can be someone!

I have been in therapy for so long, I walked into that therapy room distressed and 'damaged.' How different things are now! I had a dream of being someone who could help other people. My therapist had a lot more faith in me than I had, I doubted I was capable of anything.

After a few years of therapy I decided I wanted to be a therapist. The best therapist is someone who has been there and knows what it is like to suffer. Yes, I still suffer.

But I stuck at it, battled away at rotten parent-tapes that told me I was useless and crap. I'm still learning and finding that I'm so much more than that!

Just want to say, if you want to care for other people, and if you want to follow your dream, if you want to be a therapist too, go for it! Dreams really can come true.

Thanks ((((((((((( bipolar bear ))))))))))))) I have been a therapist for a while now actually. (Just never shouted about it.)

I've thought about becoming a psychiatric nurse (as well as a psychologist) since it allows me to help people with mental illness and take time off for mine if needed. When I achieve stability, I hope a diploma in psychitric nursing and 2 years of a BA is psychology (and I may just finish my 3 year degree anyway) would be enough to get into grad school.

i used to work with runaway kids, homeless adults, paraplegics, used to work in mental health homes etc...but i had to stop after a bad breakdown. since then i've been depressed that i'll never be able to do any of those jobs again coz they involve a lot of counselling and i've now just started therapy myself.

you've just given me hope that if i work hard i can maybe one day get back to where i was. love ya for being brave enough to share this with us and let us see there can be hope.

and to me you very much are a VERY SPECIAL SOMEBODY...

It was difficult for me to post this because I felt it might be seen as me bragging and also at times I denied the whole thing. I can't deny it any longer as more and more people have realized it. I do help a lot of people and I feel so honoured to be able to do that.

sharing an achievement to be proud of is not a brag.

sharing an achievement to be proud of that can inspire others and give them much needed hope is DEFINITELY not a brag.

if that's the case i done a lot of "bragging" when i worked with runaway kids. they all thought they were worthless and there was no place in society for them, they'd never achieve anything. that's the point where i'd tell them my story, that i grew up a runaway brat...yet they all thought i was a worker to be admired so i'd tell them straight...i used to think like them too but if i can do it and find my "place and worth" in society so can you.

unfortunately i lost that belief a few years back. like i say to my kids if you don't wanna end up like me...lol...go to school, eat your veggies, listen to your counsellor etc etc.

but coming here to pc and getting to know someone like you...who bravely shares, not brags...is an inspiration and a hope to me.

maybe you can think about that in the future...it's not bragging, it's giving others hope that they can achieve their goals and dreams too.

You have every right to feel proud of your accomplishments and sing them from the rooftops if you want to!

Despite many obstacles in our way, we do have the power to move forward in a positive direction....using all your knowledge and life experience is awesome.

I'm constantly learning new things, still growing, learning, gaining confidence. I'd say I'm a very flawed therapist but then a lot of people like that. (Thank goodness!)

Oh yes, my heart is definitely in the right place.

I have worked hard, (still am) and it's been a real long, bumpy journey, including denying good stuff. How could little me achieve something so wonderful? But it is true and rather fantastic!

Thanks for your post - it's great to see examples of people who overcome challenges and acheive their dreams. I'm kind of starting over career wise after losing a lot to mental health and addiction problems, but I like to hope that I'll be able to get back to where I was career wise before everything went bad.

I got a doctoral level certificate in January, not realizing what it was, I thought I would see how many certs I could get! Talking things through with T, and gosh his face was a picture! And he said, you don't have to be the Dalai Lama! He he he, I'm coming to terms with it all... gradually.
