I sometimes see people post here wondering "does my therapist really care about me?"

Earlier today my daughter's therapist called me. She is going overseas for several weeks on vacation and wanted to ask me for my address so she could send my daughter a postcard while she is away. It will be a whole month between their sessions--a long time! I gave her the address and told her that I'm sure my daughter would love getting a postcard--it would mean a lot to her. She said, well your daughter means a lot to me. I care deeply about her.

Nice moment.

So if anyone is ever doubting whether therapists do care, yes, they do! I'm really glad my daughter has this lady in her life.

What a sweet gesture, and such a wonderful way for the T to show to your daughter that her caring continues even when they are apart.

I think your daughter's T was not just showing your daughter that she cares. She was clearly showing YOU she cares about her and is interested in her wellbeing while she is away. My son only had 2 sessions with my current T. I did not know her well at that point and I was beside myself during these sessions. I was so afraid that she would mistreat him or hurt him in some way. I think as parents we need to know that the individuals working with our children care about them.

That is really sweet. What a kind person.

I, too, believe that our therapists care. Why on earth would they go into that field if they didn't?! It must be draining and difficult and demanding. The many years of preparation alone would discourage anyone who didn't feel it was their path. I believe those who are there have been called upon to be healers and that it's in their nature to care. That's really wonderful, Sunny.

You know, it is quite easy to *know* our therapists must care because they are in this field-- so how could they not?

But to emotionally feel that is a totally different story. Little gestures, which turn out to be huge and genuine reminders of that, like your daughter's T exemplified, Sunny, are what helps us learn that our T's do, in fact, care about us deeply.
