My T is on a two week vacation. I've known her for 5 years, and don't usually feel bothered when she takes a vacation. I have a strong connection with her and have always felt connected when she is gone too. Then this time at our last session I cried and told her I was scared that she was going (she's vacationing overseas). She shared with me a time when she was in therapy and her therapist went on vacation. She told me that she was so distraught that he was physically sick. It felt so comforting to know that she truly understands what it feels like.

I'm glad your T was able to empathize with what you're feeling. I'm sorry she's going on vacation... any time away from our regular 'routine' of seeing T can be devastating. Glad you found us (welcome to PC). Keep posting, and hang in there.

I know how difficult it must be and how long these two weeks are, so be grateful that you still have a therapist with whom you feel a strong connection.
When my therapist went on vacation, she gave me 6 cell phone umbers, international numbers, etc. I have since learned that is unethical behavior. My T is now gone for unethical behavior. I know it feels like forever....but she will be back. How about writing her a letter about how difficult this time has been for you and giving it to her when you re-unite. |
