I am somewhat familiar with the work and type of therapy by Dr. Arthur Janov. His new book, Primal Healing, is in bookstores now.
I am wondering if anyone has had the experience of being in the kind of therapy that he talks about. And has it been helpful in moving you toward better mental health and healing.
As his work speaks to me, I am interested in hearing from others who feel likewise.
Thank you!

He's got a new book?!?!?

geeze! ... and I thought he was dead!

Well ... I guess a person learns something new every day!

I'm havent heard of any therapist in my area (QLD, Australia) who practises using Janov's sorts of techniques ... wasnt Janov the guy that termed the 'Primal Scream'?

hmm - I'd be interested to hear if anybody has experienced that sort of therapy personally - it sounds a bit flaky to me though.

But then again, I'm of the belief that whatever works for you is fine, as long as its not hurting anyone.

Good luck with your search 9874

Interesting...

I often have a silent primal scream during session. Well, not silent to me, but it doesn't get vocalized.

I'd be interested to hear about anyone's experiences with it too.

At one time, in the late 70s, I lived across the street from a couple who were into primal screaming. They had built a little soundproof, portable hut. It had padding on the inside. A person could go inside and scream as loud as he could without disturbing the neighbors. They invited me to try it a couple of times, and I did peer inside, but I didn't want to. (It was too small and I'm kind of claustrophic.) Both the husband and wife did this primal screaming daily.

There are times I would like to scream, so maybe I would like this now.

I don't know anything about this type of therapy, but there have definitely been times when I've felt like if I could just scream at the top of my lungs, I'd feel so much better. Almost like all of the screams I never released during the traumas are still in there and I need to get them out.

T suggested screaming in my car - I've tried it and can't quite do it because I feel silly and self-conscious. But I did manage to get out a little scream once, and I actually did feel a sense of relief.

I am not well versed in primal therapy either. However, I have screamed at T, oh yeah.

He called it a transferential rage. I called him something else.
