and how does your therapist handle it???

does he/she... get concerned... that they can't bring you back to the present... that you will get caught in the memorie... and... not be able.. to return to present time??

It did.. happen to me about 20 years ago... and the clinic brought in a pdoc.. they had on-site... to deal with it.... took a very long time... to bring me forward.... but eventually... it worked..

so does anyone else have problems with this??

Body memories are a big problem for me - especially when we're doing EMDR, and even sometimes when we're not.. My T just treats as a normal part of the session - tell me what you're feeling and where. It's easier for me to describe the physical sensation than the emotion that goes with it.

Do.. any of you have body memories in therapy...

Sexual feelings and fear and anxiety get all mixed up for me. At one point I stopped telling my therapist the stories because of the body responses I was having during sessions. He finally brought it up..."I've noticed you haven't been talking about..." and I looked at the ground a long time before telling him why. He said it was something we needed to sort out - like everything else. And then he said that even if I was getting excited (I corrected him - "aroused" is a better descriptor) because of something going on between us - we still should talk about it.

The other common body response I have is yawning and sleepiness. When things are too intense, my brain shuts down. Talking to your therapist before stuff happens often helps both of you deal with it when it does.
