Yes, I have a question. What is the homework?

When you are assigned homework, do you have an option to negotiate and modify it or decline to do it and choose something else instead? (My T is not really a homework-giver, so I don't know how this works.) It would be hard to feel you had to do an assignment unless you had bought into it and agreed it would be helpful. Kiya, I hope this homework will be helpful and you can bring yourself to tackle it!

Grrrrrrrrrr this is the first homework I've ever had (in 10 months)....

Promise you won't laugh??? PROMISE????

It's to *clean* Grrrrrrrrrr
2 hours a day..... to help my living situation, sort through all my pack-ratted items, and attempt to become organized.
(no - please, don't ask... I'm already embarrassed)

I am not laughing because I have the same problem! I think I would welcome it if someone gave me that homework because it would help keep me accountable. I try to spend some time each day but 2 hours would be too much for me!

Best of luck. It may not be fun, but you can do it. And if you are going to move out, you would want to do this before you moved so you don't have to carry a ton of stuff with you that you don't really want.

awwwww...don't be embarrassed Kiya. Lots and lots of people have organization issues. It's become a whole industry now.

I wish I could help you - I love to organize...I am an organization freak.

Yesssssssssss this is the theory. T has already been kind enough to tell me she couldn't live the way i live.... Grrrrrrrrrr It's not that i *want* to... I just don't know how to change it.
Grrrrrrrrrr Grrrrrrrrrr Grrrrrrrrrr
Two hours do seem daunting. MD is all excited. Today she said "This is what I told you to do 2 months ago." Really?? I forgot. She said "do one hour in the morning, one at night and make lotsa piles". lol .. I already have LOTS of piles... that's the main problem.
So far I've not done any yesterday or today. Great start, eh? Well, today I am supposed to keep my back in allignment from the DO... lol "Doctor of Osteopathy"... aka DOCTOR'S ORDERS!! So neah neah neah T! Why doth me think T wouldn't agree? Hmmmmmmmm..... She'd say it's an excuse and that I could have come up with a way to manage. I hate it when they are so practical.

In other news, I did send T the email she wanted... but I don't think it had the right contents. Somehow I am supposed to know what areas of my life are not functioning well and tell her what I need to change that.... Grrrrrrrrrr
I keep wondering how I might know that answer. *sigh* trouble in T TOWN.

<font color="green">[b]You can do anything for 15 minutes. GrrrrrrrrrrIf you hit a lick at a snake you will have done something. Instead of an hour twice a day what about starting out 15 minutes. Grrrrrrrrrr Take a nice break and then back to it for another 15. Sort stuff into piles of Keep, Give away, Throw away and Repair. Make a game of it. Imagine how much your not needed second [or third or fourth] whatever could help the person you are giving it to. You can take stuff to Good Will and they will give you a reciept so you can claim it on your taxes!!! GrrrrrrrrrrGrrrrrrrrrrGrrrrrrrrrrGrrrrrrrrrr

I think dalila has a great idea - working in 15 minute increments. When I get overwhelmed by my house (and believe me, homeschooling 3 really active boys leads to many a mess), I set a timer and work for 15 minutes. I tell myself I can stop after 15 minutes no matter what. Sometimes I stop and sometimes I'm so surprised by what I got done in 15 minutes that I keep going! If I stop, then I do 15 minutes again later.

Do you a friend who can help you while you get started? My best friend was in a situation similar to yours (her husband is the culprit here) and I went over to help her clean out a couple of rooms. She was SO overwhelmed, but it was easier for me, coming in from the outside with no emotional attachments to any of the stuff, to jump in and start sorting.

My last little piece of advice is to get all of your supplies together before you start. It sounds like you're working on decluttering - so lots of big garbage bags for garbage and some boxes for donating. And don't be afraid to get rid of things. Over the years, I've found that out of the thousands of things I've donated/tossed, there have only been MAYBE one or two that I missed later. That's not too bad.

Rooting for you! Just jump in and do 15 minutes today!
