My therapist is a couple of years older than me...we are both middle aged. I think that I would have a lot of trouble opening up to someone much younger than me.

I am going to be 61 in a few days. My T is 69.
I don't think I would relate well with a T in their twenties....but I would be willing to try a T younger than I am. I think attachment, fit, talent, intelligence, insight- all of these characteristics are not necessarily age dependent. My last two T's have been close to my age and I found I still developed a maternalish attachment to them. They seem to know what they are doing. I dunno, I would try a younger T. |

I would never see one younger than myself. I usually pick those about 15-20 years older than I am -which puts them in the area of retirement age or death - but the gamble is better than the, for me, complete unworkableness that would occur with a younger one.
