Hello, all,
I ask this because it happened to me on another forum. This last man I was seeing, the Ph.D. in Psychology simply had to type in my user name in a generic search engine, and up popped my private posting on another forum. I felt violated when, after the relationship ended, he revealed to me that he had read all my posts, which dated back for about a year, and were very personal. Foolishly, I had used my same user name I had used on my Ebay account, where he contacted me.
I am still very paranoid about posting on any forum, and this is the only one I visit. I feel certain that it was the contributing factor to his withdrawal from me, but also that my privacy was violated. I've changed my user name, but still feel my posts may be viewed.

im real sorry about what happened to you. I would feel very violated too.
Luckily, i use a different user name for this forum then i do for other things, like my email adress and such, so to my knowledge, no one that i personally know is able to read my posts.
BUT, to be honest, and i hope this doesn't hurt anyone's feelings, but some of the time, i get real paranoid that some of the people here are working with the government and the spies and reading all my posts and getting information about me. I'm afraid that some of the people who have mental illnesses themselves, actually don't really have mental illnesses and are just making everything up to get me to open up to them even more.
It's not so bad right now, because i have not had a real severe episode for about a month or more, but when i am in my 'delusional' states, i stay away from these forums, out of strong belief that people here are just deceiving me.

one way to make it a little more difficult to be found on search engines, make sure your forum profile uses 2 separate names (one to logon with and the other is displayed in the forum).

for instance, Google search engine picks up Psych Central members' logon names only. i have a different logon name, and when i search the phrase "jennie AND 'psych central'" nothing appears. however, when i search my secret logon name and "psych central" there are a few of my posts linked.

I'm not to worried about who is reading what. if i were i would burned my computer a long time ago. I have nothing to hide or be ashamed of.

I am becoming of the mindset that I don't care either.
Imagine, though, being intimately involved with someone for weeks or months only to find they had read very personal postings early on. It was a violation and deception, and I feel much of the reason for his weird and distancing behavior. Oh, well.....water under the bridge! I'm developing indignance and indifference about the whole matter, and it is a welcomed feeling.

We can post here semi anonymous , Putting thoughts and feeling out there for millions to view and see. I see this as a form of therapy. We can read about others and their lives their worries fears and problems. We are all human with our faults weaknesses and strengths.

i've asked to change my posting name. i googled my posting name and came up with an unbelievable amount of stuff. every answer to my posts, showed up also....just a fyi!

I never knew a person could use my user name and look up my posts. I guess I thought it was happening only blew it off as a delusion. I would say this guy is not a very good boyfriend of he is doing this. I would look at it as a violation of trust. It seems like if you stayed together with him, if it starts small by reading your posts, then perhaps he would be controlling and do things like have you followed or tape record your phone calls. It is the best to have gotten away from him early on.

While i know i dont know alot of you but it doesnt matter where you posted before. I have enough sense to ask you if i wanted to know something so theres no reason to snoop.

Remember this is something of trust and if you T or whom ever vilolates that then theres no trust and get someone else. I know its easier said then done but you all need trust and you all have that atleast from me.

I remember your unfortunate experience with the psychology guy and I'm glad you're putting it behind you. Sounds like he was a jerk.

Usernames? Yes, I would recommend a different username for health related stuff than other stuff. Health related stuff is more personal, and we do share things that a lot of people wouldn't understand.

I don't really worry about it myself, but I am so sorry about what happened to you.
