Does anyone else have this? A significant other that forgets EVERYTHING. Like you have a doctor's appt and they never ask how it went? You have a big meeting and they never ask about it? You were getting back a big assignment and they don't ask how you did on it? Is this a cut and dry sign of selfishness or something that can be forgiven? Any thoughts?

My ex-husband forgot my birthday 2 years in a row. He told me he only remembers things that are important to him. He always forgets everything, too. It still affects my life as we had 2 children together. It is so hard to forgive, but it gives you some sanity & control in your life if you can. Good luck.

is he really forgetting or just not asking? not asking probably means it isn't important to him. forgetting could be for a number of reasons.

He flat out forgets. My mom, who lives 13 hours away, calls me the day of even if I haven't mentioned it in 3 weeks. But man....I'll come home and wait.....and wait.....and wait. Eventually I just say "so.....my doctor's appointment went fine today" and he'll say "oh that was today?" when I just told him the night before. Or today I got my insect collection back (which I have been working on since MAY) and have been talking about for weeks and had to tell him my grade before he remembered I was getting it back.

WHEN he remembers he will ask but that is once in a blue moon. It's like he is so wrapped up in whatever that he just plain forgets. But I make it a point to listen to things he is talking about and asking him "so how was so and so at work today?"

It's just aggravating because even people at work will ask how things went and I don't live with them or have an intimate relationship with them. Feels like he just doesn't care. And a regular doc appt I wouldn't really care about but this has been months of fiddling with dosages since I was diagnosed with epilepsy. So it's something that is actually important.

(((((salukigirl)))) i'm really sorry to hear you have epilepsy but glad to hear you finally got diagnosed. yeah, that would bother me too that he "forgets". my sister has narcissistic personality disorder and she doesn't remember anything either. i tend to think she just doesn't care but i can't know for sure why it happens. have you mentioned this to him and if so what does he say? maybe he just isn't the right guy for you. relationships do require work but they shouldn't require that much work, you know?

I have brought it up and he apologizes. One time he said that sometimes he wonders if he has some kind of disorder that keeps him from truly understanding social situations like that. I told him that's called narcissism which made him feel bad. Sometimes I wonder if he is.

He does do things to show me he cares like having dinner ready when I get home if it's been a long day or doing the laundry if he has a day off etc. I guess im just upset because those things happened today and I was really looking for some support and don't want to have to tell him 'support me!'
