I don't think it is stupid. I met my SO online! I think if you want to meet him make sure its in a public place. NEVER drink or use a substance that can impair your judgement. Never go to his home alone. When I first met my SO my dad and sister came with me and he stayed in a house full of people over night.

Also traditionally date for a while. It is not smart to move in with someone after you've met them once in real life. Get to know them in person first. That is a general rule of thumb because moving in together so quickly can add a lot of temptation. When you traditionally date you allow yourself to make boundaries easier.

In this situation, planning to move in with him is NOT a good idea. Give the relationship time to grow first.
Thanks for this!

Definitely date for awhile, you can get to know someone online but you do miss part of the body launguage and little quirks people have, quirks that could drive you insane when you move in together. You need time to translate that relationship face to face before making such a big move. Being with someone in person is much different. Be safe when you met him, make sure it is public and never go anywhere private or alone with him. I met my current boyfriend on an online dating site, we met in public and went out to dinner, we dated for awhile before we moved in together. Stay safe.
