I am a 19 year old college boy and just recently went through somewhat of a break up. The relationship was not super long or serious, but it was the closest I had gotten to a serious girlfriend. (not just friends with benefits, etc.) Before and during the relationship, I was really happy and confident in myself (from looks to personality). Now that we broke up, I look at myself and I feel inadequate, less good looking, and just overall unconfident in myself and who I am. I'm definitely not naturally happy. I don't know if it's the weather, the break up, or if I just really am not as "great" as I thought I was before. I used to feel like the life of the party and that girls always wanted to talk to me and looked at me. Now I look around and self-consciously compare myself to other people. Am I just having a confidence issue, or am I actually less attractive than I thought? How can i build myself back up to the stud that I once was that felt very happy to be me before all of this?

No I definitely don't think so. I've never been to a psychiatrist or ever had a mental illness or anything serious like that.

How do you know if you've never been to a psychiatrist? Do you know what bpd is?

Nope had to google it. Doesn't sound like me. I'm not overly emotional for no good reason. I think I'm just a college dude that went through his first real break up that needs a confidence boost. But I turned to here for advice, because just wanted to be sure/figure out how to boost myself. also took the test on here and got a 10. This fell into the 0-14 range meaning its very unlikely i have it. (it was the lowest option)

It wasn't so much the overly emotional I was thinking about, it was the identity thing. I'll take a step back.

This is a completely normal reaction to a break-up, especially a first-time one. You are still the same person that you were before the break-up! Give it some time; things will start to go back to normal. I know it can be hard.
In the meantime, try to do some things that will boost your self-confidence. Do something that you're good at (sports? writing? gaming? etc). Exercise. Eat well. Do something nice for someone else. Volunteer. Study extra hard and ace that next exam. Spend time with a friend who makes you feel good about yourself. Etc etc. |
